Has anyone had any success with these units.

I'm looking to replace a 10/22 and this seems like a cool little rifle.

I've had a buckmark Pistol for years and love it, very good system.

Someone mentioned the slide poking you in the nose and unburned powder frying your eyeballs (which makes sense given the design)

Accurate, dependable, worth having?

Thanks guys.

Don't have one... but got to play with a friend's a while back... and they certainly have a very high "fun factor"!!!

Didn't shoot it off a bench, so I can't comment on the actual accuracy of the rifle, but it was good enough to blast empty shotgun shells and tin cans. (Did I say it was a whole lot of fun)

Didn't get hit on the nose by slide, but I did get some spray of gun powder. But that's OK as I was wearing my safety glass... and the gun was a whole lot of fun to shoot :)

I've had three :) I love....L-O-V-E these rifles! I kept a sporter version, threw an XLP holo-site on it, and it is one of the very few "never sell" firearms I own :). This gun points like NO other. The slide thing is a myth (unless you are seriously dumb and work at it ;) ), the poweder spray is true...but generally only with the hotter ammo (Velocitors, etc) and only an issue if you don't wear glasses while shooting the "hot" ammo.

Get one!

ya! ... now try and FIND one!! I see Epps has a couple listed. I have been bugging a few Western dealers. No one has one!

I can't wait to get my hands on one! Hey Wrong Way .. I will give you my TVP, my 10/22 and my sister for yours!

:)

THank you guys

I just bought one from EPPS... It was the used one on the board... looked to be in very good shape.

They have two new ones as well for not much more money. Man are those guys great to deal with... It was my first time! ;)

Again... thanks for the information guys, can't wait to get it... and get rid of my 10/22...

Just when I had given up on looking for a Buckmark, I managed to get myself into a souped up 10/22. I never really liked the first Ruger I had when I was a teenager, but I decided to get one that had some mods done to it and see what happens.

Now just to keep things interesting Garbal .. I like the Buckmark alot, but the Thompson Center R-55 is AWESOME! That is my never sell rimfire.

Well....what's your sister look like?

Hey, you show me yours I'll show you mine, (don't care about the 10/22....don't know what a TVP is, so just pics of your sis would be fine (please include a scan of photo ID :D)

As an aside, RE: All the TC comments. I have a benchmark and a sporter....they ARE nice guns, but comparing them to my BMR sporter is like comparing a M700 sniper rifle to an M4....apples to oranges. The TC still feels like a rifle....the BMR feels totally different (in a good way :) )
In fact, the ONLY rimfire I've owned that had a higher cool-factor/turned more heads than the BuckMark was the PSG clone I built on an R22

LOL! .. they're too old for you now and not worth much anymore! I agree with your statement about the differences between the BMR and the T/C. Both nice rimfires, but serve two different purposes. I like the quality and accuracy of both.

BTW .. the TVP is just a 597 in a Boyd Evo stock. It's had some bad press, but mine is a shooter. I will keep it unless someone wants to trade their BMR for it! (and I will throw in some cash) :D

I see a few guys put up WTB threads for BMR's .. can't imagine they get much luck with that.

WW .. they are pretty much senior citizens dude. Again, if you really wanna trade, I am sure we can work something out!!

That sporter looks great! .. much nicer than the laminate model in my mind. I remember you saying in previous posts that the sporter was more accurate than the bull barrel ... Is that true WW??

There's one like WrongWay's at Epps, but the previous owner made a few marks an the barrel and wood when they "hammered" the rear fixed sight out of its dovetail... what is WRONG with people anyway.

^^^^Ummmm....the rear sight isn't fixed....it's held into the dovetail with a very obvious set-screw....no hammering needed....in fact, 1/4 turn will let you remove it completely.......????

Czech~As far as MY rifles went...I had the bull, the carbon, and the sporter. The carbon was awful, the HB was good, but this sporter is stupid-accurate (VERY ammo picky though. LOVES velocitors and Winchester, hates ay of the "hyper velocity" stuff (Stingers, yellowjackets, etc)

Forgive my lack of knowledge but??

How is it a narrow tapered barrel is more accurate than the bull barrel... I always thought the opposite was true?

Why is it everyone is taking off their tapered barrels in favor of a bull style?

Enlighten me please.

Thanks,

Garbal.

It's a crap shoot. Sometimes you get a bum barrel, sometimes an average one, sometimes you get one that just plain rocks!

Hint! The shape of the OUTSIDE of the barrel only changes how much it weighs.

A fat barrel is heavier, and may be easier to hold steady, especially if shooting off a bench or bipod, but if it is not built any better than the barrel that got cut down, or the crown is not perfect, or any of dozens of other variables, it may or may not shoot any better or worse than any other barrel.

Make any sense?

Cheers

Good information, thank you... everyone is always raving about the heavy barrels... my 10/22 shoots just fine with the taper... when it's not jamming on me!

I went to the EE with the heads up from this thread .. BMR was on hold. Went to Epps to put a deposit on the new one, it went from $589 last week to over $700 this week! Disappointing to say the least. The dude that got the one from Del Selins stole it! nice work!

Think there is one at WSS for $540 or so. The $700 model may be the laminated special something or rather, seen both $500 & $700 at different places at the same time for a while.

Heavy barrels may also have different harmonics and heat absorption/dissipation that may help with accuracy. But as was said, weight alone not make something better.

With these, think the short barrel helps - more velocity for the .22.
