mossberg?

I own Mossberg rifled barrel shotguns and a Mossberg centrefire rifle, a 100 ATR, and based on their accuracy, function and build quality I think your friend is off base in his assessment. The ATR is particularly pleasing with it's accuracy.

I own a Mossy 500 that I bought from the EE for 75 dollars.Even though I own much more expensive guns,[150 dollar SKS] it's the Mossberg I would reach for to defend home and hearth. It looks like it has spent years under the seat of a pickup truck, but still shoots and cycles perfectly. It can get kicked around and take it.

They just use cheaper materials like plastic trigger guards, triggers (on some) and plastic mags. All guns shoot but at under 500 bucks for an ATR with a scope and a bipod, it's gotta be pretty low quality. Not trying to knock it, I own more than one remington SPS, you just get what you pay for.

i own a 835 and it's greatest shotgun ever made fired over 5000 rounds through it without a problem. but recently bought a 535 it fits very long and its front end heavy would not recommend the 535

I've had a Maverick 88 for about three years now. It may not be pretty but for a tool and cheap blaster, it works just dandy. Mossberg 500 barrels and stocks work on it and it holds one more ropund in the mag than an 870. I admit that it is not a beautiful peice of art but it does work well for a beater shotgun. Like all guns, clean it when it needs it and you'll be fine

I personally find that an 870 cycles a more smoothly than a mossberg, but I imagine they are more or less the same on the reliability front (can't say this for sure as I have never owned a Mossberg.)
