I'm thinking of getting a pair for groundhog shooting, coyote's out of the truck and bowhunting. Do any of you all own a pair? I am thinking about the Bushnell Quest or Leoppold WindRiver series. The Leica and Zeiss seem a little out of reach. Would love to hear opinions about any of them for longrange shooting or hunting.

I had a set of Leica Geovids, great glass, the LRF worked well my only complaint was that they were so stinkin heavy. I sold them and now use a Swarovski LRF and Leica binocs, that usually live in the truck. The optics in the Swarovki LRF make lugging binos around almost a waste of time.
I would not want to spend all day glassing an area with just te monocular, but for setting up targets , checking distances to things I want to shoot at or in the field game identification they work well.

No experience with the bushy or leupy stuff.

I went the other way. I have a pair of Zeiss Victory 8x32T FL and a Leica crf 1200, both great products. I found that it gets just a little too busy glassing and ranging for game and then figuring out the wind and which mildot/stadia to use on the scope while game is on the move. So Santa has kindly agreed to leave a Zeiss Victory RF 8x45 under the Xmas tree this year. As a result, the Zeiss 8x32 and the CRF 1200 are on the EE.

Stay away from Bushnells. Their claims of effective measuring distance are about four times what they really do. I'll sell you mine if you really really want one.

Best I've ever seen are Leica

I use the Geovids and love them, except, as ATR states, they are a tad heavy.
They make up for it in carity and laser accuracy however!:dancingbanana:

I have a pair of the Leicas and they are excellent. They are a bit heavy, but as heavy as binos and a rangerfinder? Also with a set of shoulder straps (instead of neck) I dont notice the weight nearly as much.

Thanks guys. I'm rethinking the cheaper brands. Maybe I'll go the Swaro rangefinder route. I have a set of Swaro EL's that I love but cringe to take them hunting. There is a local shop that sells the rangefinder for under $900.00 last I checked. Maybe some laying off the beer and going out to eat, coffee, hunting gadgets etc. etc. is in order....
