I just started to "try" to get into reloading and I am already coming into problems with it. I can't figure out what i am doing wrong, I think that I am doing this accordingly but....they aren't working, the neck is getting pushed down and changing the shoulder completly(they look like a flying saucer). The funny thing is it happend to three out of five why not all? Please help thanks

this might be simplistic, but did you double check to make sure the bullets are the proper diameter/caliber? I know I grabbed the wrong bullets off the reloading shelf before... also might want to lightly lube the inside of the case neck, not very much though. Could also pick up the little tool that chamfers the neck with a couple of turns. Any details about your caliber, and procedures will help in figuring out why your having problems.

Could it not be that you have the crimp set too tightly or are attempting to crimp when it is not necessary? Try backing your bullet seat die out until there is no crimp and then get the bullet seated to the depth you desire. Crimping may not be needed. Only other thing that may cause this is if the die is full of some kind of crud or obstruction not allowing the bullet and crimp ring to work properly. Dave

Did you chamfer the inside of the case mouth. As you are a newbie, its probably new brass you are using - it tends to have sharp edges...Looks like the bullet is catching on the lip of the case, and causing the case to buckle.

I would check to see that the seating die is set deep enough. Looks like your projectile is being forced into an unsupported case. Check your die's installation manual. Mine says to place an empty case in the shell holder, raise the ram fully, then screw down the die until it contacts the case. Increase 1/2 turn for crimping. Adjust your bullet seating depth AFTER this step, using the adjustment on the top of the die.

If it happened to 3 out of 5 it is probably You not placing shell in shellholder but on top of it.... been there...

thanks ill give those a shot it's a 25-06 and they are brand new out of the bag brass and brand new dies, i did size them before i tried to load them too. i've loaded for my 338 and never had this problem, this is my gf gun and i was trying to show her how to load but...i am having a few problems.

Are you using hornady new dimention dies? This happens because of a floating seating bushing... bascially you have the depth seating screw tighten way to far down. Back if out all the way. Then put a case with a bullet in the brass just sitting on top and tighten down the depth screw till you feel friction now drop the bullet and brass out and then turn the depth screw one full turn now press the brass and bullet back into the die now it should seat the bullet barely... then adjust the depth screw again till its at the proper overall lenght

Screw your seating die into the press until it hits the shell-holder, then back it off a full turn. Check your case length.

:runaway:

Not good advice above!

Adjust your seating die to just touch the case when the ram is all the way up.
If you need a crimp, you would screw it down another 1/4-1/2 turn!
It makes a huge diff whether the bullet has a cannuler or not.
