Yes they are prohibited. A string of gang-related bayonettings and drive by shootings caused the Libs to ban the Garand in 1999. They found that the first five shots fired out of a rifle always missed the target but the three remaining shots always hit: a female bystander, a puppy, and a portrait of Tommy Douglas (in that order).

That's why all my hunting guns hold six rounds. I miss with the first five. Use those to sight in. The sixth, dead deer.

Don't forget that at the same time the en-bloc clip ejecting from the rifle cost a handi-capable, bi-lingual, female visible minority member, and recent immigrant from a war torn country (who's citizenship they still hold) an eye.

Hey Todd, have you read my Newbie FAQ Section thing yet?
The link is in my sigline below.

Even if there was no exemption made for the 8 round pinger, the gun itself still would not be banned. You would simply have to get modified 5 round pingers. They are available in the US for some states that have 5 round HUNTING rules.
(Always good to keep in mind the crucial difference between Federal gun regs and Provincial/State hunting regs)

Actually, there is a psychological condition called "pingophobia" causing certain Toronto residents to adopt a fetal position, hug their genitals and start crying and babbling in French at the sound of a Garand clip being ejected after the 8th round is fired. It is rumoured that in the next provincial election McGuinty will announce funding of $2 million to research a possible cure for this condition - to be awarded to the Coalition for Gun Control...

No, they're banned because they're dangerous gangbangers. The poor "victim" doing the drive by shooting caught his thumb in the action. Ever gotten Garand thumb? Makes it really hard to do B&E's, drive by's, crack deals and the like. It would be wrong to deprive a gang banger of his livelihood.:runaway:

No, they're banned because when you get in a shoot out, the ping sound gives away not only your position but also the fact that you'll be busy reloading.

the irony is that this was probably the most prolific battle rifle issued and used in history to fight undisputed tyranny. sad state of affairs now.

Thats why you drop an empty one on the ground while you still have yours loaded. Ping goes off.. enemy pops up.. and viola... Game, set, match..

Never mind the gangbangers. I watched the Lorax slamm his thumb, not just once but three times in a row in an awsome demonstration of his amazing firearms skills. He'd probably would like em banned. LOL
