So I was thinking of mounting a piece of weaver rail to my Synthetic 870 forend. Just in order to mount a light directly to the forend and not have to spend 60$ on a new FAB forend.

Has anyone done this? And If so what kind screws did you use to attach it? Pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Oh ya this is the gun a Norinco HP9 14", Hope to replace the barrel mount with the rail

I would suggest using 3/4" large thread wood screws and heating them with a torch or even a lighter somewhat before screwing them in. It will make them cut through the plastic better and have a much stronger hold on the forend.

I plan on doing the same thing with my HP9 actually.

Something like these, but black if you can find them:

And one thing to remember is to not screw them in until they are cooled down enough to not totally melt the plastic. You just want the plastic to be soft and easier to deform around the screw. You don't want it to get so soft that it's liquidy and dripping away and the screw is wobbling inside the melted hole and not grabbing as well.

You can find the same hardware I used in Canada cheap and with your $3 dollar rail, a hack saw, and a dremell..... you're good to go.

This is what I ended up doing with the streamlight rail.
It was designed for the AR15/M16 and only requires the use of a drill press to install.

Positioned it on the front of a Remington "Sporting" forend that I had cut down to clear my TacStar Sidesaddle.

Snipping the aluminum retaining plate allowed the threaded inserts to pop out.

Drilling out the holes from the inside to hold the threaded inserts.

Testing the depth for the first insert. Looks like I need to go deeper.

After shortening the screws by a 1/16" of an inch and adding epoxy to hold the inserts in place she was good to go.

Note - I would do it again on a full size sporter stock as the added length allows me to grip the forend better. The shorter version doesn't allow me to get a comfortable grip on the forend after the flashlight is added.
