AR-15 question

.223 and 5.56 have very similar dimensions (not exactly the same, but close enough that they will fit and fire in either gun).

The only reason that 5.56 is not safe to shoot in a .223 barrel is because the small differences between the two cases cause too much pressure and may damage the gun. 5.56 factory is meant to have increased pressure for military applications.

that said, ive reloaded and seen 7.62mm and 5.56mm cases used in .308 and .223 dies with no issues, as long as you dont exceed the maximum loads from the charts when adding your powder.

The lower has nothing to do with the calibre of the gun, its just a "look cool factor" thing...u can see 9mm and .22lr uppers mounted on "223" or "556" lowers...it doesnt realllly mean anything...

so, the upper is the more important factor in deciding whether or not 5.56 can also be fired?

The upper...but more specifically the BARREL is the determinant in what calibres the gun can fire where the 5.56/.223 debate is concerned. When reloading, the original case doesnt make much of a difference in my experience...but if you're shooting factory or surplus 5.56 out of a .223 marked barrel, ur likely looking at some problems.

the lower just makes the bullet go bang, the upper and barrel take care of all the dangerous stuff

thanks guys, I really appreciate all the help.

I just ordered a stripped lower from wolverine. They didn't have any part kits in stock so I couldnt get a complete lower.

You're both daydreaming if you don't think this going to happen - we're looking at 18 months minimum before the next election, none of the opposition have the money for it now. That's plenty of time to do lots of banning.

You must really be convinced, since you're doing something other than advertising for Dlask.

Feel free to turn in your guns at the local RCMP office, and have your account here closed if you are so convinced.

They won't be prohibiting and grandfathering owners - it will be confiscation guaranteed.

Way to hang in there:mad: pretty week if you ask me. I am enjoying what I have now and am super excited because my colt 9mm AR15 is comming tomorow;) along with my H&K USP

we'll be fine, they have to many problems to worry about than our harmless little black rifles

If they try to "Ban and confiscate" without Grandfathering existing owners then I for one will sue for the unconstitutional confiscation of my legally owned property... the government licensed me, they "approved" my firearms purchases, they issued me registration certificates and import certificates... win or lose I would fight the implementation.

I would encourage ever other legal firearms owner to also file such a lawsuit... one person filing suit is almost meaningless... but imagine 50,000 lawsuits being filed... these lawsuits would clog the legal system and cost the government large amounts of money, time and embarrasment.

We're not talking about a small number of people... we're talking about potentially tens of thousands of lawsuits... which would also (in theory) scare some sense into those who may want to get "re-elected" next time.

Make it politically distasteful and they are less likely to do it. In any event I won't go down without a major fight and I encourage everyone else to do the same... simple as that.

In the meantime... I am officially announcing that Questar will donate $25 to the Conservative Party of Canada for every firearm sold this month... so if anyone buys a gun they will be helping to support the CPC.

there are a lot of paranoid people around here. Some of the people I have talked to have the thought that "the first the thing the coalition is going to do, is ban my black rifles". While I do agree that the liberals/ndp will in some way try to do so. IT WILL NOT BE THE FIRST THING THEY DO. They have a lot of other things to worry about other than banning our guns. Right now, they do not want to be spending the money to do so. Even if they do, it will takes months and months of processing at minimum in order for such a bill to pass.

If they do ban our guns, it won't be for at least 6 months. If they do, there's no way of telling whether its a grandfathering or a confiscation. For those that gurantee that it's a confiscation, offer a gurantee like an insurance company if you're so certain.
