AR15 223 and 9mm pics and some questions

Well I have talked about them quite a bit and have already asked numerous questions and for that i thanks you guys for you advise and answers. Here are some pics. I have a samson star c free float quad rail, harris bipod, and CTR tock all coming from Walter at Arms East any day now so there will be some changes. first here are some pics and then some questions.

ya I know my kimber is missing some grips but it is because crimson trace is fixxing them

now for some questions. My colt AR15 is my newest member to the family and it came with 3 original colt mags. With the mags in when I pull the charging handle back the bolt stays open (just like on my stag) Now I also bought 2 10 round lar RRA mags from Q-star and they seem to fit in great as well as free fall but with the mag in when I pull the charging handle back the bolt won't stay open unless I push the button on the side. I think this is because of the little tab at the tob of the colt mags but not on the RRA mags??? here are some pics

has any one else had this problem??
Also I believe this colt model is a R6450 the guy said he bought it new in b1986ish. Could some one confirm this for me? And my last question is: This colt only seems to have a 2 position but stock, what kind of buffer would I have to buy to change it to a 4 or a 6??

Do the mags have bullets in them when you pull the handle back?? If they do, youll have to lock the bolt open with the bolt control on the side. If they are empty, they should lock open when you pull the charging handles.Dont know about colt or stag but i have an armalite and a rra 9mm pistol ar and both of them are this way. hope this helped


edit: looked at my rra mags... my tab seems to stick out a lot more than yours... maybe ask questar where u got them see what they say

Most mag blocks work the bolt hold open ( The new C products, Hahn Dedicated, Hahn bottom load etc ) . Notable execption Hahn top load

Your C-Products mags you are using should function the BHO ( the back of the follower does this in the C-Products )

Some C-Products 9mm are slightly off where the follow does not rise all the way to catch the BHO

Out of 10 mags, I had 2 that did that

Easy way to tell is take your lower only, push up an EMPTY mag. If the FRONT of the follower catches the mag block , it will not allow the follower to raise up sufficiently to push the BHO

Easy to trim / sand the front of the follower. C-Products is great to deal with. IF this is your problem your dealer will be able to get you a new follower

IF THIS IS NOT YOUR PROBLEM

If the follower is not catching your mag block then the height of your mag block may need adjustment.

BTW - if you go to C-Products web site it clearly states that if you are using their 9mm mags in a RRA you may need to adjust your mag block. Give them a call for help

Looking at my Colt 9mm magazine polymer follower, (one with the LEO markings and the polymer follower) the ledge at the rear of the follower is quite a bit deeper. It's deeper because the top part of the rear of the follower is cut at a bit of an angle.

Looking at YOUR short magazine polymer follower, there doesn't appear to be much of a ledge there. I also note that the rear of the same follower is cut straight at a 90 degree to the ledge.

If you look closely, the top rear of your follower is in contact with the very inside top of the magazine body preventing the follower to sit farther to the rear of the mag body. You can see a gap on the spine where the ledge of the follower fits into

If you cut the rear of the follower above the ledge at an angle like I described my Colt mag's follower is angled, your mag's follower would sit farther back into the spine's channel and better engage the bolt catch by there now being more ledge surface area.
