I always laughed when i hear shot placement and pistols.

Credibly the pistol is given 8 METERS effective range in times of duress to HIT A MAN SIZED TARGET...

NEVERMIND the INTERNET HANDGUN SNIPER COMMANDOS that are Miracle shots and hitting nerves and arteries.

Real world experience has told us you're barely likely to even hit that guy unless he's 8m in your face.

I took an internet pistoleer to the range a couple years ago. He laughed when I was putting my targets up at 15 and 20 yards. He put his target up at 50 yards and shot 200 rounds with the various handguns I brought up. After the target change he proudly showed me his 50 yard target with two holes in it which were made with a .22lr pistol. He didn't hit the paper once with any of the centrefire handguns. He still 'brags' to this day that he can 'hit' a target with a handgun with iron sights at 50 yards.... He can rattle off specifications and ballistics better than I can remember. He da man.......I'm sure we all know someone like him.

At the other extreme, I know a man who regrets that in several decades of shooting, he never managed to put a full string of bullets through a single ROUND hole. Through a single hole, yes, he did that all the time but there was always at least one shot a fraction of an inch to one side!

Me, I usually manage to hit the back wall of the range.

I can't fire a pistol for ####... but anyway, if you're shooting at 50+ yards, you're not defending yourself, you're hunting, regardless of the type of mammal involved

Civilian shootouts are point blank rapid fire most of the time.

I don't think it matters if you have a 9 or a 45, someones gonna get f**ked up.

The argument was settled decades ago in favor of large calibers. Wound volume is proportional to the frontal area of the bullet. A 9mm needs to expand to make it a large caliber but at handgun velocity expansion is unreliable. Anything that can be done to enhance a small caliber can be done to enhance a large one. In a fight .45 trumps 9mm, .50 trumps .45.

You are funny! You would rather be hit by a 9mm than a .45?

You remind me of a guy I used to shoot PPC with. He was bragging
about the stopping power of .45, but the poor guy could barely hit the PPC target.
After I showed him that G17 in 9mm can put 550/600 on PPC, the guy
bought a 9mm Glock, then .40 and .45 CZ, guess what? he could not hit
his targets with any of his guns. Make and caliber were irrelevant for this guy.

I'm telling you, any caliber can be deadly. It is not the caliber or make of the gun that makes it deadly. It is the hand holding the gun.

Funny - the guys flapping off like this never seem to be willing to either put their money where their mouth is or stand downrange at, oh say 50m, and take a chance at catching one with their body . Strange, this lack of real conviction in their beliefs.

i took over $400 off of unbelievers on the 100m range at Connaught a few years ago with a 1911, and it can be done often enough to prove that it's not a stunt...

I've never heard of anyone espousing shooting for a "major artery" before. I guess I don't get out much.
