How much shooting does one need to do to quality as an official shooting addict? 2500 rounds a month? 500? 1000? More?

Since my CZ Shadow came in a month and a half back I've gone through 1550 rounds to date on it.

I'm hoping to temper this consumption with a new .22 pistol that is coming in to help keep the costs down but DAMN THIS SURE IS FUN :dancingbanana:

Anyhow enough of my "bragging". So just where does around 1000 rounds a month put me on the scale? Oh, that doesn't include the 2 or 3 100 packs (are these the "bricks" everyone is mentioning?), 2 or 3 boxes of .38 Spl and the cylinder of .44 Magnum I put through the range's guns just for some variety.... I guess I sort of answered my own question with that other stuff added on didn't I.....

All the trigger time is sure helping. My 8 to 9 yard groups of 10 are down to around 2x3 inches when I concentrate and shoot around 1 round a second and I've got the match paced "close is good enough" down to where I can put most of the rounds into the center of a reduced size IPSC target that is sized to be around the equivalent of maybe 14 or 15 yards out. For my shaky old hands and fuzzy eyeballs I'm hoping that this ain't too shabby. Either way it'll have to do.

I bought a SA 1911 in July and put a whopping 375 rounds through it. So not nearly enough. Would have been allot more if the lame a$$ Steve Johnson Range wouldn't have shut down (Calgary).

I'm usually out once or twice a month ~800-1500 rounds about 2 to 1 45acp and 9mm. It's kind of hard to track, since I move and store ammo in large coffee cans, I shoot a couple of cans a month in 45acp. The only way to get good is putting rounds downrange. Remember there are police officers who shoot these volumes in a year.

I burn on average 150 to 200 rounds' worth of powder every time I visit the range, and I make it out about 1,5 times a week.

So, roughly 1000 per month I guess.

We're seeing both ends of the spectrum it would appear. And it also would seem that for now at least while this is all new and I'm totally pumped up that I'm on the heavy useage side of things.

Last time out I was alternating between a magazine or two of .22 with a magazine of 9mm. Not only did it provide a nice contrast but it seems to help with my "newbie flinchn'pull" that I found when shooting only 9mm. The .22 kick is so soft that it's really helping me to not anticipate and that's showing up nicely with the 9mm shooting.

I've also discovered that if I follow through on the trigger to complete the stroke then release and squeeze again that it tightens up my groups and generally helps me get into more of a zen like shooting space. Is this old news to all you long timers out there?

Not enough X 2, but when $$ and time is there, I can keep an average of a thousand round a month, split between .22 .38 and 45. Still keep shooting my revolver. I love wheel gun.

I'm about 2 x a month, sometimes more, never less. Each trip I shoot around 300 rounds of either .223, .17 HMR, 12 ga, .22lr or .270 win. Now that I've added .45 and .38/.357, I wuld expect that to go up my minimum of 200 rounds.

I suspect 1k per month in the immediate future.

Well it depends on how often you go to the range. 6 weeks of shooting 200 rounds per session is average.

It also depends on how fats you shoot. If your shooting steel than you go through rounds alot quicker than when your shooting for groups.

just enough so that everyone at the club know you as the guy who shoots too fast.

Oooooo..... that's almost below the belt.... :D (just kidding, I actually got a chuckle from that one. :D)

When I'm shooting for groups I'm running maybe 1 to 1.5 seconds between shots with pistol. I can see where longer range rifle would be a different case but so far all my shooting is pistol. So given the much shorter 8 to 10 yard target distance within that 1 to 1.5 seconds I'm either on target or it's time to just give up for the session due to tiredness or coffee overload if I'm off by that much. And so 10 rounds STILL only lasts maybe 25'ish seconds. If I'm doing double tap practice runs in anticipation for the coming season's IPSC I'll raise the sights, fire two rounds about 1/2 to 3/4 second apart then the finger comes out of the guard and I lower the muzzle a bit, look at my results then lift, tap off two more, lower, look, lift.... etc. Doing it that way I'm still only getting around 20 to 25 seconds from a magazine.

The couple of times I actually just blasted out a full magazine as fast as I could for giggles the target looked like I'd put the bullets into my mouth and then someone hit me a good one in the solar plexus..... don't do that much anymore....

I don't shoot as much in the winter, due to the cold and short range hours...

No help for me on that count. All my shooting is at the indoor commercial range we have here so far. Open until 10 PM every weeknight just to suck me and the rest of the sheep in and shear our wallets..... not that we don't go willingly mind you... :D

Unless you're a Mountie, then you only get 100 rounds per year... I mean, the government wouldn't want the members to hurt themselves, now....
