I know that I will have those who will cry bull$hit - but I was there!!

Camp Wainwright Primtive hunt - 28 Nov 08 - 0900. 100 grains loose T7 behind a 250 SST. TC Omega.

This was the bull standing ahead of her at 252 (yes, you read that right) 252 yards. 90 grains (not a typo) behind a Hornady 300 gr XTP.

I cannot profess to have taken the shot, I didn't have the tag. I operated the laser rangefinder. The bull was taken with my Knight Original disc, the the other fellow wasn't happy with the groupings his ML shot this year, and knew that I was smacking the gong a 220. He also saw me shoot this one

at 140 yards the day previous. Same load. It's really gonna suck when I get posted out of year.


PS - Both the Knight Original disc, and Redfield fixed 6x lowprofile scope were both from the EE forum. Thanks Gunnutz!!!!

I beleive you I use a traditions with 240 Gr Hxtp sabot. 100 grains loose and dropped a doe a few weeks ago at 197 yards according to my GPS reading give or take 4 yards as it was telling me accurate within 4 yards at the time. No pic's of my own but my buddy took a few.
 
well I dream of going to moose hunt one day but run my own business and never seem to be able to take enough time of just a day here and there and of course saturdays to get my deer managed to get a couple of Elk over the years at the Cypress hills but its only 45 min . from Med hat looks like you guys had a great day in beautiful weather . And I beleive you the most powerful load does you no good if it isn't acurate. Congrats!:D
 
Congrats on a great hunt.I've been shooting 90 grains of T7 with 300 grain bullets for years as well. It's been an awesome load in my last 3 muzzleloaders.
 
That's some good shooting.

How on Earth did you manage to get both of those cow's in the back of the truck?

After a few quick phones calls (when we had a signal:redface:), three other trucks joined us. I had already dressed up the cow, but the bull expired a little further in the woods. We wrapped a tow line around the antlers and dragged to to were the cow dropped. The we dressed that one up without completing with deadfall, stumps, and other malfesions. We loaded the bull on first, then the cow on top. The truck rode like a cloud with all that weight in the back!!:D
 
FYI if someone load 150 gr. of blackpowder and shoot just over a surface of snow, he will notice that with any kind of blackpowder firearm there will be a blackpowder spill onto the snow of about 20 to 30 grains. And this is more true for shorter barrel rifles or muskets.

Not with a 26-28 inch barrel........but you are correct that a longer barrel is required to burn higher charges efficiently
 
i know my cva wolf shots a lot better groups with 100 g then it ever did with a full 150 g .the boys on hank parkers show ues a muzzy that takes a 200 g load thy say it is a four hundered yard gun i canot remember the name of them but thy seem to work well must be a pretty good kick i would like to try one just for kicks DUTCH

There's a lot of truth to that, but like they say in TV court it ain't the whole truth. Using 3 pellets instead of 150 grains of loose changes everything.

Actually the old beelching powder myth has been around a long time and it may be true with barrrels under 26" or with guns not utilizing 209 primers but I've tried it many times with both loose and pellets out of several different in-lines and it just ain't so. Run a gun over a chrony and velocity keeps increasing as the powder charge increases. Unfortunately, accuracy doesn't always improve.......

Perhaps I should have stated it differently myself, since I don't really care about dirty snow.:D What I'm getting at is that 3 Pyrodex pellets chronographed faster for me than 150 of loose.
