I have some spare cash and a goodly collection of firearms of many types but I do not yet have a Desert Eagle. I recently have held one that belonged to a friend but have not had the opportunity to shoot one. I am considering on getting mine chambered in .357 for obvious reasons. Cheaper to shoot and reload and having fired .50 revolver I can honestly say .50 is not something I would like to shoot often. To me it feels like taking an aluminum bat and whacking a steel sign post. Makes my whole body ring like a bell.

I really like the feel of the Desert Eagle and the finish was beautiful. (24K gold). Are their issues I need to know about? I do plan to shoot it regularly.. all my guns go to the range regularly and for that kind of money I don't want it to be a hangar queen because it shoots like crap and jams all the time.

Any DE owners care to reply?
 
I don't own one, but I have shot a few in .357, .44 and .50. Like you, I'm not keen on the .50, but the .357 was easy to shoot, and the .44 was tolerable. The fact that they are so heavy, and semi-automatic takes some of the kick out of them. Every one I shot was accurate, though the triggers were usually a bit gritty creepy and heavy. Austin Behlert used to work on these and I tried a compensated pin version he had built in .44. I think he used to offer trigger kits, certainly trigger jobs.

I heard the 24K gold finish wears off pretty fast. If you want a daily shooter, go with the titanium gold version. I personally will go with a 44, because that is how it was designed for and heard the recoil is fair.
 
A bling-bling gun more than anything else I would say. The grips are HUGE, definitely not for someone with smaller than very large hands.

I'm probably the first one to admit it, when it comes to the desert eagle, the bulk of it is just too much for me to handle. You really really need to have one in your hands and shot it to know if you will be able to shoot it.
 
I've only know one person who owned one, and he had a hell of a time getting the right ammo for it.(to cycle consistantly and not jam) . he eventually sold it
 
Actually the very first DE was a .357, the .44 came later.
You'll definitely need full power factory duplicated loads to function it.
 
I shot one in .44 that belongs to a member here. It was a blast to shoot but to me it's a "fun to have" type of gun....not a practical one to own. but..it's your money..did I mention it was a blast to shoot?
 
I've owned both the .44 and the .50 and shot thousands of rounds through both, for the money go buy the .44 its cheaper to run even when doing home loads.
I read about many people claiming that its is a real handfull in .50AE I would dispute that as my wife who weighs in at a mean 96 Lbs shot the .50AE with full factory loads on many occassions without problem and my home loads, In its favour I found both to be very accurate.
 
I JUST picked up my brand new Titanium Gold 50AE Desert Eagle on Thursday, taking it out tomorrow for its first rounds.

For me, i was set on this exact gun just because of how big and flashy it is and nothing else. I plan to shoot it here and there, but its mainly a show(-off) gun and something fun to impress the friends with...and its my grad-gift to myself when i finish Royal Military College in <160days!

if you want gold, dont go with the 24K as the gold is too soft to shoot, so go with the Titanium Gold.

Also, why not get a 50? there shouldnt be any reasoning in buying a gun other than the bigger the better! haha

My Desert Eagle was the same, it even jammed with the exact factory ammunition recommended in the manual. That being said I bought mine in 1986 and it was one of the first ones, of course, in 357 Mag. They probably have the bugs worked out by now if you buy one of the latest versions.
 
Crappy on the 24K Gold. It will be shot often... so the titanium gold it will have to be. The one I am looking at is the Mark XIX.
 
Want a "big gun"? Why not just get an AR with a 10" barrel?? They weigh about the same and are almost the same length lol! At least w an AR you can put the buttstock into your shoulder and aim accuratly! It would probably be cheaper to buy, and much cheaper to shoot!
....Never really saw the point of such a big, hard to handle pistol. But that's just my .02 :cheers:

i dont know of anyone in Canada that has these in stock, and I only know of myself and one other guy on Nutz that have a titanium gold, best bet would be to import it through Questar or by yourself with an Import Certificate and look at impact guns in the states and try that way.

and the thing with guns like this, is that there is NO point to them! thats half the fun of them is because theyre so outrageous and ridiculous...and why i got into firearms in the first place! :dancingbanana::dancingbanana:
 
The 44 is definately a fun gun. But it's not a regular shooter. The grip is too big and even if I like heavy guns, the Desert Chicken is WAY heavy. It's picky about ammo and even with reloading, 44 brass is hard to find for free.

I got mine because I got if for a good bargain. If I had to pay full price, or even the full used price, I would have passed it by.

Stick to a nice 1911 45 if you want a regular shooter. :) Your wallet and bank account will thank you for it. :D
