I just might leave it stainless, it's growing on me. Those groupings were from 100, the groupings at 200 were a bit larger, but still very impressive.
That was just a dig

A one-piece can put tension on the receiver if the receiver or even if the base is out of spec and doesn't match perfectly (I've heard this can string your groups, but who knows). Rick made sure my receiver was in spec so I could have went with the one-piece, but in my case I don't need all that extra room. Plus I get a bit more hand clearance to the camber....So really it boils down to personnel preference in my case.
mlebler, what contour of barrel did you go with?
I think the two piece makes it looks much nicer and old-school and is a fine departure from one-piece bases that you see on every Tom, #### and Harry's rifle. If I were you, I'd go with the olive type barrel colour others were referring to, but only if done through a chemical colouring process (like blueing) vs. paint... Otherwise, stick to the stainless.
Did you find the cause of your stringing? I'm noticing you're getting vertical for some groups and horizontal for others...
