Deciding on type of shotgun

WSS sucks

Well yet again I make a trip to the Kamloops WSS and have left with the same foul taste in my mouth concerning their lousy Customer Service of late and Selection/Availability. They had the 870's but no left hand but had them on order they had no BPS's in stock and had the Hunter on order and the Stalker model BPS is not even in their computer system despite it being on line and in their catalog. They have the worst availability I've ever seen as both the 870 and the BPS I was told have been on order for a few months now. This is not the first time I've left disappointed there for the same reason. I'm down to seeing if Powder Keg is still charging 20% more then MSRP on most guns. If they are I'm off to visiting Mr. Friendly in Vancouver and looking for my new shotgun at one of the guns stores there.

You should be able to find an older Ithaca pump cheap with bottom ejection similar to the BPS.

I want something that can shoot steel. I do not want to have to have it modified at a gun smith. Besides everyone deserves at least one new gun and my newest is over 30 years old.

you need to go over to the footwear section and ask the same questions there. they won;t know either, but they are much prettier :)

don;t feel to bad about browning shotgun availability. I ordered a BPS Upland Special in 20ga a few months ago. was told to expect to wait at least 6mths, more like 12 :)

they are a nice bit of kit though....

No not that they suck just the gun section management.

Probably not the managers fault. He would probably be more than happy to recieve and keep in stock a whole pile of those cheap remingtons and the BPS. It is the end of hunting season and those two items were popular enough to be sold out. I am not sure what the case is with remington but the browning supplier in Montreal has run into difficulty with someone off south of the border and just do not have much to sell the retailers. The savage retailer was not able to fill any orders from the larger retailers so some have started to import direct from the US. Product advertised on the retailers web site are those that were booked and promised at the last S.H.O.T. show. Some have arrived but not in the quantity ordered. Usually the smaller stores get what they order because what they order is small. As you noted, they also charge a bit more. It is a fact of life that suppliers that supply even the largest of Canadian retailers are just small potatoes to the american companies and they have Canadian business if they provide service or not. If you want either of the two mentioned guns, I would suggest that you phone one of the off beat stores in Alberta. Bashwaw Sports come to mind. P and D will probably have what you want.

I did not mean to imply that either of the stores mentioned were off beat. Bashaw is off the usual beaten path but in the last few years they have created quite a path with their deals and effort to order what you want.

Sounds like you only want to buy one gun. Check out Benelli. Tough durable steel shot is find and the only shotgun you will ever have to buy.

X2 Skip the pump gun. They handle like bricks and kick like mules. Save yourself some time and aggravation. Save your money and buy a nice Semi. You will end up with one sooner or later anyway. Along with a few SxS's and O/U's. The only thing good about pumps is they are cheap and usually reliable.

Has anyone ever called you a gun snob?:D

I want a gun I'm not afraid of hunting with and cheap. As I mentioned I'm on a disability income so I need something cheap and reliable no bells or whistles. I do want both an SxS and O/U but cost makes them out of my price range. Just getting enough for the pump took me over 4 months. If I spend more then I previously listed I can't afford to go out and enjoy the outdoors and hunt the rabbits.

I wasn't blaming the store gun department manager. I was more referring to the person in charge deciding what guns get shipped to what stores and to the people that decide how many of the guns to order for all the stores combined. Granted availability comes in to affect but I have to blame someone ;)

HMMM save on the cost of PST and get the gun I want...why didn't I think of that. I'll look them up thanks for the heads up.

No! There is a chance that Crazy.Kayaker, in spite of the name may not be Nutz and actually be normal:D Mind you, not a big chance;)

Finally someone on my side....wait you implied I still might be crazy.....the doctors assured me despite the lack of success with the drugs they gave me the shock therapy might have helped......:nest:

There is a bit of room for personal preference here, for instance I wouldn't touch a semi-auto if it was downwind and hiding behind a bush! Since many pumps and semis are built on similar platforms and often have interchangeable parts, the handling superiority of semis seems less clear to me. I do agree with owning a few SxS's and O'U's, but my utility, do-it-all guns are pumps. I shoot Rem 870, Win Mod 12, and Ithaca 37. I suggested a Browning BPS for a lefty friend last year, he couldn't be happier.

Thanks so do I. I just have a tendency to over think things when money is involved.

No problem with trying to get your best bang for the $buck$.
One last bit of advice from me. Make it two! Take em or chuck em, I don't mind.:D

Although I love my gunz, my relationship with them is not like a marriage. I do not have to be faithful! I can have more than one! It is very OK to look and to touch. I can have a very physical relationship with one I do not love, just to satify my desire to know. The one I like best is: if you're in a relationship and it is not working out, it is OK to cut your losses and move on to another relationship.

Do not agonize about your decision too much. The 870 and the BPS are both worthy of your affection, but if one doesn't do it for you, the other will always be waiting:D

The last bit;
Do not listen to win/64. He has champagne taste and has his heart broken by at least one of those good looking Italians:dancingbanana: Looking for love in all the wrong places, is also OK:D

Words of wisdom :D

He's right, you know. As time goes on, you'll have more guns than you need, because the "want" is always there. I sold my O/U, not because I didn't like it, but I had to, to fund my 7WSM. Then I got me a coach gun, just because it's handier for grouse than my semi. (and it does surprisingly well on the trap range wtf)
