Hi guys,

My employer is looking for one or two infrared/thermal imaging cameras to overwatch an animal paddock, and he's not sure where to start. I offered to put out feelers here to see what the experience of the membership says.

The cameras would be static; no pan, tilt or zoom required. He's got about $10,000 to $12,000 to spend.

If this question would best be posed in another forum, or to a particular person, I would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks!

infrared no problem

Many security camera's have infrared capability, so any decent supplier of that type of equipment can get you cameras and monitors.

Thermal is tougher as you need to find a Canadian supplier no export from the US. Generally you are looking at $10,300.00 US or more per camera for Thermal.

there's a company in neepawa, mb of all places that rumors say manufactures thermal and or infrared equipment, the only possible evidence i've ever seen is an audi R8 down on main street:)
what a sweet looking car:D

I've got some old thermal imaging equipment that may or may not do the trick; send me a message offline and we can talk about whether it might fit the bill. Certainly wouldn't cost $10,000 ...

I really don't mean to be rude here, but as I understand it, Infrared and thermal mean the same thing. Thermal is heat. Infrared radiation is heat. Did you mean the difference between thermal and light amplification (NV)?

I suspect that you may be talking out of your ass, but I would like you to qualify what you mean when YOU say infrared versus thermal before I call bulls**t.

It's a good thing you didn't accuse him of anything. You would have been wrong.

Look at some trail cameras, and video cameras, and you'll find many widely available cameras that can operate in low light and employ IR illumination.

Then look up "forward looking infra-red imaging". Whole other thing. ;)

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the input. The project has been passed off to another, who seems to want to persue her own direction. She has my name, but has not yet solicited my input. If anything changes, I will post here.

Thanks again.

2 companies that I have used their Thermal Imaging camera. They are Fluke and FLIR. They have expensive models or cheaper ones. However, the cameras use battery power very quickly. For long period of observation, we typically use an AC power supply.
