Shooting slugs

You're safe from damage or injury with any choke and rifled (Foster) slugs. Accuracy-wise, the range seems to be from no constriction (Cylinder), through 'Skeet', 'Improved Cylinder (IC), and 'Modified'.

Even a full choke is safe to use with lead slugs, but accuracy will suffer. Lead slugs, Fosters, Challengers, and Brennekes have a skirt which can collapse to allow it through the constriction of a tight choke. This is something you should test for yourself. Fire a group of slugs with each choke you have, then you will know which produces the best accuracy in your gun.

a lot of people asume thy can not shot slugs thru a ful choke i donot know were this comes from .if you go back a few years you did not have a lot of choice as guns came with a fixed choke .most people only had one gun and used it for everything .many hundreds of deer were shot with rem and win guns with fixed full chokes and thy worked just fine .you would go from ducks and number 4 shot to deer and slugs then rabbits and grouse with 7sand 8s all with one gun thats just the way it was .today most guns have screw in chokes and you can still shot slugs thru a full choke as long as it is tightly screwed in mayby not the best idea but it will work safely.the idea of removable chokes is to give options as a more open choke may give a littel better grouping with slugs an you can still use a full for reaching geese or for turkeys .this is one of the joys of shooting newer firarms you get to play around with diferent chokes as well as barrel leghth and many many different loads to find what suits oyou and your game enjoy your firearms and donot beafraid to try new or dfferent things with in reason get out and take someone shooting DUTCH

Yup....what Boomer said......full chokes are safe with the slugs he outlined but it's been my experience that more open chokes offer better groups but as suggested, testing at the range is the only way to know for sure.

At this time I only have a fixed full choke single shot. I guess I'm gonna have to go look at trying some lead slugs.

hey cray most modern slugs are lead unless other wistated on the box .challengers remington buck hammers and sluggers will all work in your singel shot even some from winchester and federal just look for rifled slugs and find one that shots good in your gun ,that is the nice thing thy come in box of five for around 4 to 5 dollars a box so you can try a few different ones without breaking the bank DUTCH
