Long barrel 30-30 project....

I am considering in the future, having an Angle Eject 30-30 remounted with a 26 octagon barrel/magazine/forend, from a Canadian Centennial Commemerative. It sounds sacriligious, but I am going to mount optics and wring this rifle at long range on paper targets.
I wish to know if this feasable to do? And if the barrel shanks will interchange?

"...sounds sacriligious..." Not really. Unless a Commemorative is still sealed in the box, it's not worth any more than any other Win 94.
 
Biggest hurdle may be to find the right barrel blank.

The only quality maker I know of that makes octagonal blanks in the right size for Win94 and also for cast bullets is Green Mountain Barrel. Not sure if they export.

I can offer you a Shilen blank but it only comes round.

Sounds like a neat project.

Brutus, I once had a martini action with a 30-30 bbl that was 29in long. It shot extremely well.

It is somewhere in the Yukon as far as I know. I gave it to a young fellow about 35 years ago. He was just 15 at the time and fell in love with the rifle. I had a thing for his mother etc etc. Needless to say, he was pleased with the rifle.

He kept in touch with me for about 10 years and was still useing the Martini as his go to rifle, even though he had others by then.

Nice thing about a single shot in 30-30 is that it greatly increases the bullet selection and as long as the brass can handle the pressures, gives a decent velocity increase.

I think that you would be happier with the single shot action, but that's just IMHO. If you really want the AE94, go for it.

The more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards a single shot action...

The top eject and angle eject extractor cuts are in different positions. YOu would have to make the new cut for the AE, and would be left with the topeject cut. Apart from that, what you are proposing should be do-able.
 
Green Mountain Barrels will get up to Canada!
A buddy of mine just bought a 45 cal barrel from Track of the Wolf took about three weeks BUT when ordering anything by mail make sure you state they send it by US parcel POST not by some fed ex outfit or the costs get horrendous, for freight brokerage fees border fees and then taxes and customs on our side of the 49th
 
I have also been debating fixing an old 30 30 model 94 with a 32" octagonal barrel. I do beleive you may be able to pm toymaker in winnipeg he is always building some lever guns. I recieved some input from him way back.It will be a nice project if you pursue it.

She's good. Working, with me not, yet, after the surgery. Going to see the cutter tomorrow, to see what he has to say.

26' tube onna thutythuty, eh? Should work out well! Gonna try cast bullets? Now that the prices on metals have gone back to pretty much normal, the tire shops are starting to get a stock of wheel weights building up again.

Last place I stopped at locally, the guy gave me two five gallon buckets full, but wanted to keep the buckets. The 'dub was riding a little low in the back!

If you never looked at it, that link that showed up in the thread on doing a trigger job on an H&R single shot is worth a look. There is a lot more on that page than just trigger work, by a long shot!

Trev, from what I understand the private moving bonus, was watered down from what we would be used to.
Hell, living in the West is so much in my blood, this was an easy decision with my daughters living in Alberta too.

Changing the subject, I am so looking forward to playing around with cast recipes in this longer pipe. Hardest decision is now which first pick of many moulds!
Seems I have a great range to choose from..........which one first? :)
