I'm thinking of getting a cheap .22 plinker. Just wondering what revolvers you guys like and what is a decent less expensive option? :D

I was looking at semi's such as the Sig Mosquito and Walther P22 but haven't heard that many good things about them. A sig 226 with a .22 kit sounds like fun, but its too $$$ for me.

S+W, Ruger, who else makes them? Any other recommendations?

.22 Revolvers are fun. Get a used one, sometime they go cheap. I bought an old RECK for 200 bucks. I often see Ruger go that price.

I'd recommend the Ruger

Good luck

i bought a H&R from the EE for 180 shipped i think? bit of surface rust, but in pretty good condition otherwise and shoots decent (i think, i'm not good with handguns). fast double action doesn't always index properly, but with the purhase i was given a spare part that might fix it, so all good.

.22 wheelguns....

Likes:

S&W Model 17 "K" frame usually 6" barrel
S&W Model 18 "K" frame usually 4" barrel
S&W Model 63 "J" frame, 4" barrel
Colt SAA Scout 4 3/4"
Ruger Single Six .22/.22 mag convertible 5 1/2" barrel.
H&R Model 929 4" barrel [brutal double action but decent single action]

If you don't have 12(6) for the short barrels [4.14" or less] then I'd say for the money the Ruger Single Six is hard to beat. The S&W Model 17 with 6" barrel would last you a lifetime of .22 plinking, too though.

If you can get a smith 17 you've got the best there is. A single six is great and generally a hell of a lot cheaper. I've got both, and the smith is best.

I'm not much of a revolver guy... but I enjoyed shooting my father's Diamondback

Then there's a few Colt Officer Target floating around, all the one I've tried (6 or 7 of them) had very (VERY) nice triggers!

If you can get over the look, the MCM is a pretty sturdy (and accurate) 22lr pistol...

First one was an H&R that I paid $100 for... timing was a bit off and I didn't like the trigger.
Next was a Taurus Tracker, sweet in single action, very heavy in double, quite accurate but heavy... it too is gone.
Now I pull out my Ruger Single Six when the urge to shoot a .22 wheel gun hits me.
That said, the best one I've personally fired was a S&W 617 10 shot.
Nice trigger in both single and double action and very accurate.

Own a 17-6 with full lug and 4 inches barrell, excellent gun, accurate. It come at the range with me everytime. Find it on the EE for less then $400.

Got the same thing.:D My favorite 22 revolver and is a good match for my 'other snake', the Python.
If you want to go somewhat less expensive, Ruger single six. You can think 'cheap' but in most cases, not only do you get what you pay for, there's the resale consideration down the road.:)

I had a single action SAA type......hated it. Slow to load, slower to unload.
.22 is meant for blasting off bricks at a time, get a Ruger MKII.

Wellllll, yes & no. Especially as a starter caliber it's a good one to learn the good basics and finer points of 'walking' before you try running.

I have many different 22 wheel guns. Single action are a pain to load and empty.

The Smiths are beautiful.

But my favourite is a butt-ugly High Standard. It is a full-size gun and emulates a K or L frame Smith. I think i paid $65 for it.
