Mosin #### on opening...functioning issues.

I find the carbines allot of fun to shoot, and have found the blast is only at it's worst for the folks standing on either side of the shooter. :D

Have you considered replacing the spring? Maybe you have an uber stiff one, and a different one would give you an easier time. That's what you fight while opening the bolt, so it seems logical that it could be the problem.

Yes, that's a thought. I found an American site where they give dimensions to cut the spring down to 3 1/16" long or so...it's way stiffer than it needs to be.
If the snap caps don't do it that'll be next...

You might want to get a replacement spring to play with and save the original as a back-up.
 
You could also try it out with a different bolt, but the same bolthead(as this is what sets headspace on a Mosin). Have you got another Mosin? A friend with a Mosin? That would isolate your troubles to bolt, or rifle.

I got the snap caps, A Zoom brand...nice looking product.

The problem is gone with them in the rifle...click it off, bolt opens relatively easily and ejects nicely.

When the rounds are in the mag properly, it feeds like butter.

But...what a cumbersome loading setup! The rounds have to be fed in exactly right from the top, not too far back or forward, or they jam up quite nicely. I don't have strippers or access to get one in.

And, there is a bizarre little tab that comes out from the left and holds the rounds down if you push them down too far...anyone know what that is about? The rounds were held down and I had to use a tool to get it to release the rounds up, it's spring loaded.
God, give me a Lee Enfield any day, removable 10 round mag, #### on closing, easy to hand load, a way way better rifle!

Seriously... I ended up with my 94 30-30 win jammed up tighter then Wendy Culkiers ass at a gunshow because of those A-zoom snap crap caps.

While embarrassing as hell it was lucky for me that it happened in front of my gunsmith in his store, so he took my rifle apart and unjammed it. Then he handed me the snap caps that he extracted and pointed to the garbage can, and mentioned that these crap caps do this in some rifles.

Inspecting the rims I could see how the extractor, and cartridge stop cut groves quite easily through the metal...Hence the dreaded win 94 cartridge stop jam (crap cap ended jammed up under the ramp).

Last time I checked the Enfield mag is meant to be removable only for cleaning. Also if one doesn't load up the rounds just right in the stripper clip it becomes a big ugly jam.

About the only thing I would like to see added to a Mosin would be a P14/P17 style rear peep sight...But that's me as I hate leaf sights.

Anyway I digress... :D

To help feeding make sure that mag spring is screwed in tight, seems to make a huge difference in my rifle. Oddly enough, after I switched from surplus to brass rounds, Bell first then my reloads, I haven't had any feeding issues.

How is that tab operated Pepere? Does it pop in and out as the bolt goes back and forth? Interesting setup that...more complicated than it appears at first sight.
BTW, with the snap caps the rifle functions perfectly. Glad I got em.
