Double actions, the whole cylinder swings out, hit the extractor and dump'em all. Single action you have to do one at a time, through the little gate on the right side. That's my ONLY beef with my Ruger Single Six. Otherwise, I highly recommend them. Loads of fun, and revolvers can use any 22 load, shorts, LR, even Floberts. Plus the 22WMR cylinder. :D
 
These H&R "sportsman" Model 999 are a fine .22 with adjustable sights & a used one goes for $100 to $200. They have automatic ejection of a full cylinder of empties, & come with either 4" or 6" barrel.

I would say
s&w 17, or k22 masterpiece
ruger single six 5 1/2...... it is alot slower to reload as mentioned though
I personally hated the taurus I had, in fact I was very eager to get rid of it.

for autos
the mkII and the 22/45 from ruger are excellent. the one I have has shot thousands of rounds and never had a hick-up, good accuracy and very comfortable to shoot.

If you plan on using the gun for high volume I would stay away from a single action. Don't get me wrong I love SA but in 22lr it can be tedious for alot of shooting. That being said I will be buying another single six myself but that is more to do with my collection of SA ruger revolvers, and the fact that I have an auto.

If it where me and it was going to be an revolver I would go S&W, if auto then I would go ruger, S&W model 41.
 
I have owned 2 Ruger Single six's in my life and I loved them both. Very fun, and amazingly accurate.

I had a sig Mosquito and liked it too. But it was not as fun for some reason, even once I figured out which ammo to use.

My walther P22 is a great gun, but I have had to do alot of work on it to get it to run right. Now I dont think I will ever sell it. It just fits too good.

But I would buy a single six again avore all of them if I could have only one.

Cant beat the accuracy.

And you can get the model with the extra cylinder for .22 mag so you can shoot something with a little more poop.
 
The indoor range in PoCo has a really cute little S&W Model 34 kit gun with a 4 inch barrel. Of course that makes it a 12-6 but it's there for the use of folks that buy ammo to shoot through it.

It's truly a delightful gun to shoot. My dream is to find one somewhere, somehow and make or have made a 4.25 inch barrel for it so it moves to the Restricted classification and then make it mine. The grip frame is too small for big hands but a bit of woodworking would fix that pronto.

What I like is that it's small enough that you feel a bit of a thump when it fires. Something that is missing in the larger and heavier framed options shooting a .22LR round.

Mind you if I manage to find an Astra or H&R before everyone else here jumps on it then I may find happiness in one of those too.

Although I haven't shot an Single Six I would think that the long empty and load process would bug me pretty quickly. At least with a swing out hand ejector or break open ejector style you flip the empties out and then with a bit of practice I found that it was pretty easy to load two rounds at a time.
