H&K P7 PSP Hard Chrome????

It's finally here.......PSP hard chromed with a matte finish by RK Custom Gunworks aka Dark International.

Some very fine scratches showed up on the slide but I am quite happy with it. Now all I need are to install the Nill grips....

Looks excellent!

I don't think I will be doing mine, I am liking the "plum-slide" look more & more.

How does HC effect the value of the gun .I have a mint P7M13 and don`t want to lose it`s resale.

I have seen a professionally hard chromed pistol increase in value by 50 %. Adding a beautiful set of Nill grips would add to the value as well.
The hard chrome finish is much more scratch resistant than a blued or stainless steel finish.
A collector would want to see any firearm in all original condition. A target shooter wants an accurate, durable and attractive pistol.
There are before and after pictures earlier in this thread. Which would you pay more for?

I'm no expert but.........from a 'collectors' point of view I tend to think it would make the pistol be less desirable than a originally finished one.

The PSP I have is a police 'surplus' pistol, a "B" grade with some holster wear on the finish and the bluing at the rear of the slide was worn right off at the serrations but, really, it wasn't bad enough to truly warrant refinishing it but I really like how the P7 looks hard chromed and wanted mine to be hard chromed. I have no intention of selling my PSP and I intend to shoot it. If you're concerned about how hard chroming would impact the value of your P7M13 I'd recommend that you don't do it. I believe a stock firearm is worth more to a collector than a 'dolled up' one and the P7M13 is, IMHO, definitely a 'collectable'. Any 'customizing' on a firearm reduces your potential market because you need to find a buyer who wants the gun along with the 'upgrades'. Just my 2 bits worth and I'm not a collector (tend to buy high and sell low) so take what I say with a grain of salt.......

Got my 2 P7M8's back. Pics will come after Cyanide Ride helps me as I'm a dinosaur tech wise.

Rodger had advised me that due to lack of jigs, the interior of the frame and slide were not chromed. Well, they were chromed just not as evenly or thick as the exterior. I was quite pleased with this effect as the insides were still silvery, just less shiny and the protective/easy to clean effect was the same! most of the interior parts that don't show were left blue.

I found it much easier to clean the chromed guns than when they were blue. The magazines were similar, enough chrome stuck to the inside to protect the metal.

Beautiful work! I have to say it looks amazing! Few questions...
Will you/did you shoot the gun after refinishing? Was barrel also chromed?

The website I pulled it off of stated that it's hard chrome. Can't remember which website it was but the same pic is on Ken Lunde's website and his description of the finish is hard chrome with brushed flats.
Speaking of him, Ken Lunde seems to be selling his H&K P7M13 and P7M10. And they are pricey!

P7M10 auction

I intend to shoot mine but I haven't made it out the range due to a flu bug that's going around in my family. The exterior of the barrel has been chromed but I don't think the interior has been from what I can see....

RK Custom does very nice work. :)

Few questions from someone not that familiar with the law/services:

How would one get a gun to the refinishing place? Get an ATT and drop it off in person or is there a way to ship them?
What kind of price would one be looking at and what kind of trunaround time?

Thanks!

This is what I did.

-called RK to see if he was willing to do the work and to discuss what you want done.
-called CFO for a short term ATT so I could send it to RK. Usually approved the same day and copy sent to my e-mail.
-went to post office and mailed it to RK via Priority Courier w/insurance
-when RK begins the job, he'll ask for payment with postage to be made (cheque and money order were the options given to me)
-RK will send it back to you when he is done

Price, for me, was 250 for pistol, 40 for each magazine and return postage. The turn around time was a little under 2 months but my pistol was held longer because he was very busy at the time. If Rodger doesn't have two pistols to hard chrome you may have to wait until he gets another job in for hard chroming (he does them two at a time). RK does nice work and it's, IMHO, worth the wait. YMMV.
