M96 Mauser side safety?

Hey there,

I'm interested in buying a sporterized m96 6.5x55 off of tradeex, but would like to replace the wing-type safety with a side-safety. Has anyone done this, and is it a difficult job? Any suggestions on where to find the parts?

X2 cheaper and quieter Bold and timney triggers work great

Trigger based safetys are not very safe, no where near as safe as a striker blocking safety that the 96 comes with. Bueler striker blocking safetys are available for the 96's.

Beuhler design wing safeties will work, side swing Win 70 style safeties are available for 96 Mausers, and the trigger safety will work as well. As to the safety comment, well, I don't see a lot of people being shot every year by their Rem 700s, Savage 110s, Brownings, etc, etc, etc. The only safety worth spit is the one between your ears. - dan

Where have you seen the side swing safeties for the 96? I can only find them for the 98's

Brownells sells the Beuhler safeties for M98 and M96 (and other small ring variants)

I was referring to the Win 70 style safeties, but I only ever see them for the 98's.

I don't know if they still sell them, but Brownells used to carry them. PMS used to make them, if memory serves, and I think Jim Wisner made them as well. - dan
