Spoke to 2 well known gun shops on the weekend.
Both said prices are going up about 18% due to our $.

New inventory will cost more.
One was raising prices across the board Jan 1st.

What have you heard?

Who knows what will really happen. Could it be that some of the "panic pricing" will be short lived and represents little more than opportunistic profit taking? Yes, the Cdn dollar is weaker than it has been for a while, but the bottom line is that when the dollar was strong, we did not get much of a break in most shops. With the "big three" using less steel, those prices should come down. Labor costs are also likely to come down as unemployment rises. Fuel costs are already down so it costs less to manufacture and ship. A good percentage of "recreational buyers" are "price sensitive" and will simply not buy the high priced toys, so those who want to stay in business will have to take a bit less profit to move their product. Take a look at vehicle prices in Canada. Do you really think they are going to sell more by raising prices in the new year...

Since this summer the Canadian dollar has slide 20%, add in the gun buying frenzy in the US, prices will have to go up.

I never saw gun prices go down around here, they always go no where but up!!

Seems like that, but it is not quite true. Ruger is one that I have notices has gone up, but no where near as high as it was when our dollars was at its all time low.

If they arent priced where marginal revenue meets marginal costs then they will see a dramatic decrease in sales. With the economy the way it is they could see a tremendous drop.

Here's one for you, I have wanted a Ruger M77RL Ultralight for quite some time. I was watching the price at Wholesalesports for a while, on their website, catalog and in Canadian Access. I finally decided to get one, and bought one about two months ago for $719.99 new. I checked their website a few days ago, and they have gone up to $869.99. Iwas glad I bought when I did. The stainless synthetic model was going for $669.99 and is now $799.99

The price of guns is said to be going down in the States and Europe because of lower demand from the economic crises. We will see what the dealers do with a 25% drop in sales. This is a hobby and the spending is discretionary. They will be cutting each others throats to sell their junk next year.

Buying guns is a hobby for most of us right now but if the "#### hits the fan" and we're in a severe depression.... a gun is a must have survial tool. Hopefully it will never get to that point.

Cheers!!

I hope! but if it ever gets to that point, most of us will not have to buy any more survival tools!:D I know I got lots! I just worry about the Newbie who may be lurking and has yet to buy his first gun:( Hey Newbie! Better get started on a thread to determine the best buy and what kind of survival tool to get for a severe depression;)

In a severe depression many would steal a gun so shops would close their doors.

Maybe it's not the best thing to say, but I for one hope this economic downturn absolutely kicks the sporting goods stores in the ass. They gouge the crap out of my wallet all the time, so now maybe they can experience the same thing.

Just like the oil companies... Bastards charge me 1.50/L in the summer, and now it's down to 70 cents. Doom on you too!

I love capitalism. Finally the market will sort out the real players from the pretenders, and maybe now we can get products for what they actually are worth.

I belive that it will be only a downturn rather than a depression but it will hurt. 8.50 for a cheap plastic box made in china for a buck is gouging. It isnt the guns as much. The guns are like buying a car and getting it serviced. It is the supplies and accessories where the real money is. There is almost no competition anymore so we are paying crazy prices for some things. They will increase the price of a Sako and say that it is the dollar but has our dollar depreciated as compared to the Finnish currency? They will charge what the market will bear.
