who's reloading 9.3X62? Case trimming?

Just wondering what everyone is using to trim 9.3X62 brass? Anyone have some sweet shooting loads for there husky mauser 98?

I use a .36" pilot(RCBS #9390) in my old RCBS rotary trimmer.

I like max loads of RL15 or Varget with both the 270 gr Speer and the 286 gr Nosler/Hornadys/Privi Partizan. My best accuracy is with the 270 gr Speer/Varget and the 286 gr Hornady/RL15 combos.

Here's a sampling of loads using various bullets with RL15.

Other data is available from the Hodgdon and Nosler.

x2 on the .36 pilot. I load the Speer 270 with 58 grains of IMR 4064. I also reform my brass from Remington 35 whelen and get exelent case life.

I got the Accubonds from a friend in BC. I'd try reloading international maybe for the seconds which is what I have, they worked fine.
Only shot one whitetail with the Accubond, bang flop at 80 or 90 yds.
Hit a bull moose with the 270gr Speer using the 9,3x57 and it was on the ground before the barrel came down from recoil. Mind you, the barrel goes pretty high on the Husky 146.:p;) The 270 holds up well. Accubond was a full pass through.

I haven't found a need to crimp. Keep in mind my testing and use of the 62 was not very extensive. The mag inmy rifle was long enough to hold the Brenneke case and the long leade had me seating too long to crimp anyway.
I since sold that rifle and went back to using a x57.
For the little trimming I did I just used the .358 pilot and had no problems at all. That was just for squareing up the neck.

What are these ballistic tips you have on order? If they are Nosler those are discontinued. Best stock up on them if you like them. I was too late in getting any of those.

I got some 286 Norma RN (Alaskans possibly?) from WhyNot. 59.5 grains of RL15 in Lapua brass with CCI LR Magnum primers gave me about 1.5" at 100 yards and about 2350 FPS last week in Saskatchewan and the Old Man's load development center. Not half bad from an iron sighted rifle. I think it's a keeper. Now to get the sights reglated and go to Africa!

Noel:They are 250grain balistic tips by nosler. I I have been realy happy with the performance of the .30cal 180grain balistic tips in my HB savage .308, especially at ranges around 400yards. Did you recover the speer bullet from the moose?

BUM, Have you considerd upgrading the sights? I am unsure of whats out there for options on sights for these things. I would really like a receiver peep sight I think, but something that adjustable, yet can take some abuse/accdent. I would be happy with a Grizz hunt lol, don't realy have the desire to go to affrica.

Nope. I built the rifle with a NECG banded masterpiece front sight and my dad built the rear sight from a piece of bar stock on his knife-making machinery. I wanted a classic English-style stalking rifle for bush hunting in North America and Africa. Since I went to Africa in '07 I've been hooked and want to go back and this rifle was built with that in mind.

Sweet. My rifle actualy just arrived yesterday, it apears to be one of the last 98's in 9.3x62 from Anthony. Everything seems ok, probably could use a good bed job, the first few inches of the grooves seem a bit fuzzy... but I can't feel anything with the brush or a patch, lands are smooth, and square looking. If It can(not saying I can) shoot 1.5" at 100yards with the Irons and top loads I will be more than happy. How was the bore on your rifle B.U.M.?

Finally got some horday 286 grain bullets, slapped some loads together for the weekend. How much free bore does everyone's rifle have, mine seems to be rather excessive(almost as bad as a remington) lol?

European rifles in this caliber (actually in all the 9.3s I own) generally are pretty long throated. I mostly use Speer 270s because of availability, but did score a fair amount of Norma, Woodleigh and RWS bullets some time back, up to 320 gr, so we'll see how they do. I shoot them in a Husky 9.3 x 57 and 9.3 x 62 and a Ruger 9.3 x74R. I used to have a Husky 9.3 x 60 as well. - dan

Some guys have had bullet failures with Speer 270gr at speeds exceding 2300fps? I haven;t tried them so I don't know for sure.Perhaps Hornady with make a 235-250gr bullet? Still waiting on dies for my FN 98 Husky 9.3x62................Harold

Harold

There's a couple guys on the gunboards forum who are swaging down the 225gr Hornady 375 cal and are having great sucess. They have used a 222 or 223 sizing die with the top 1/3 or so machined to get the finished dimension matching their specific groove dimension. This is mostly with the x57 case but I don't see why it wouldn't work in x62 as well.

My only experience with the 270gr was going 2460 at the muzzle and hit Mr. Moose at about 140yds. Bullet went through both shoulder blades. The core almost separated but it got the job done just fine. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. FWIW.

Thanx for the info.I take it that some sort of extended shell holder along with the cut off die accomplishes the swaging? Any one post any photos of this setup? Harold ****A 219 Zipper die would work if cut off at the shoulder is .365 OD you could hone it out a tad
