Vintage Colt 1911 in 45ACP.

"...markings say UNITED STATES PROPERTY..." That makes it a 'Lend/Lease' piece.
"...The gun is chromed..." That drops the value by at least half. It'd be worth about $2500ish without the chrome.

The 5 digit serial # indicates WWI production. Chrome finish pretty much kills any collector value.

I have a vintage colt in 45 ACP purchesed back in the mid 90's from a military gun collector. On the left side of the slide it has markings saying patented APR.20.1897 Colt's PT.FA,MFG.CO. It also has SEPT.9.1902.DEC.19.1905.FEB.14.1911 HARTFORD.CT.USA this is on the left side of slide. On the right side of the slide it has markings saying MODEL OF 1911. US ARMY. The left side of the frame the markings say UNITED STATES PROPERTY. Right side of frame has ser #17*** . What would the value be for this gun. Thinking of selling it.

If it's serial 17000 - 17250 it is first year production [1912] if it is serial 17251 - 17999 then it's 1913 production.

If it was all original in 80% condition it would be worth a considerable amount of money to a collector as it's an early Colt 1911 military model.

Since it has been "chromed" and the sites changed then it is only a "shooter" grade 1911.... value is whatever the current market is for a "shooter" grade Colt 1911 military. Collector interest would only go to the vintage. Putting back the original trigger is a 10 min job. Reinstallation of the 'original' sites [both front & back] may be problematic.

Putting back the original triger & sights are not a problem. Sorry the Administorator does not allow me to post images on this site don't know why.
This is what my dauther is telling me.

Your pictures have to be "hosted" by a picture hosting site like "Photobucket" etc then you can post them on here..... ;)

Geez, too bad about the nickel finish. :(

Slide has the 'early' patent dates:

And the early rampant Colt pony in circle:

Both very desireable in 'original' finish.....

Also, looks like your mainspring housing is a 1911A1 and the grip safety is 1911A1....

Good news.... the trigger looks like early 1911A1 milled trigger.... might be worth a few $$ to someone looking to restore an early Colt 1911A1... ;)

It's a rare gun due to it's age and low number produced but collector value is nill due to the refinish. Is the serial number missing from the receiver or is it hidden by photoshop? Your rear sight could be easily replaced I would think. At least it looks that way. If the gun was a family keepsake then it has collector value but you said you purchased it. At the end of the day it's an old Colt and it's been around a lot longer then we have.
