Shotgun Ammo question

Have my first shotgun coming in the mail and I need to have some cheap ammo I can waste. I see Walmart has those Winchester 100 round boxes for 25$. it's 12g 2 3/4. think 7 1/2 shot loads.

Not a big fan of the winchester .22 rounds so I figured I would ask some opinions on the quality of the shotgun ammo seeing as the price is right.
 
It's fine for plinking, recreational clay target shooting and even small bird hunting if the distances aren't great.
 
what are you planning to shoot? those 7 1/2 size loads are for clays and short range bird hunting like someone said there are also the smae shells in #8,5 and 4 as well sometimes

i use those winchester shells and they work great for the price if your not shooting clays yet jsut messing around at the range or wherever on some targets some slugs are fun as well canadian tire usually has 12 ga 2 3/4 slugs for $14.99 for 15 of them also try some 00 or 000 buckshot:D

all the winchester ammo i've bought over the years in various calibers shoot like crap compared to the premium stuff. I wouldn't hunt with it. if you're not concerned about accuracy, buy winchester! :D

Shotgun ammo is all good, if it goes bang:D Now not too many will remember paper shells , they would swell when wet ,and getting them in the old single was not bad, but you had to cut an alder branch to punch it out. Oh the good old days of copper wire to keep the action from opening when you touched it off.:D
 
Excellent! Another new guy to take to the trap and skeet range! Wait til spring, Talquin, and we'll show you what shotguns were designed to do.

Oh, and any cheapo ammo will work fine. What kind of gun is on its way?

I love paper loads. You still see a lot on the Trap & Skeet fields. Mostly bring backs from the States. I find that the felt recoil from the "papers" is milder.
 
If it's for bear, then do your practice with the ammo you will be using - slugs.
Anything cheap will do for practice, but for serious shooting Brenneke Rotweil is recommended.

Try some other stuff just to see how it patterns - from my short barreled Maverick 88, 00 buck was useless at more than 7 yards.
 
100 rds--thats like 4 boxes. Should be able to find it cheaper than that. what about them Supreme's? Maybe check Buysell.com for your area. somebody usually has lead shot kicking around. Maybe put an ad in the equipment exchange. just an idea.
 
i prefer buying 12ga by the FLAT... dunno if you have a real gun shop close to ya or even wholesale sports but you can find 250rnd flats of 2-3/4" in #7-#8 shot for $60ish compair that to $25 per 100 and you do save a little... 100 12ga rounds is not alot of shooting... even doing milk jug drill's in an afternoon i will blow thru 100-200rnd's.

if you want to have alot of fun on the range and it is permitted use empty 4L milk jugs with a half pound of sand in the bottom of them so they dont fly around too much... a scrap piece of 2x6 planted in the ground is fun for slug's as you get nickle sized holes clean thru it with severe exit trauma :D

word of advice, shot normaly shoot's high out of guns so aim "at the feet" of ground targets.
 
I have been shooting alot of the target loads as of late. I had bought some winchester and some Federal stuff as well. The Federal were great (Canadiantire- 25$) for 100 shells and did a good job. So I figured I would try some Winchesters (Walmart- 27$) for 100 rounds, Maybe i got a bad case but about 55-60 of the shells had long cracks down the sides of the shells after they were fired. The accuracy was alot less compared to the Federals. Just my 2 cents, take it for what it is...!

where do you live? someone can point you to a supplier in your area but if you had to pay shipping on 250oz of lead... i'm sure you get the picture $$$
best bet is always a local gun shop, second to that is wholesale sports or another big chain store... shy of that call a trap/skeet club in your area as some/most sell ammo by the flat.

and yes the cheap winchester from walmart suck's for me as well... but it still gos BOOOM.
