Hi,

I am trying to replace the main spring of my P226. However after removing the grips, I am clueless. Tried to Google for any videos or "armorer's manual", but couldn't find any online.

THR recommended the following link, but I don't have a user name and password to sign in there.

http://w ww.biggerhammer.net/manuals/sig_sauer_p226_armorers_manual.pdf

Could anybody help me with disassembling the P226?

Thanks in advance.

Just found the password. However it was a little too simple, and the graphics were terrible.

Now jiggling with the take-down lever. Couldn't get it out of the frame. There is a wire inside blocking it.

Also I am not able to figure out the following 2 items:

1. Magazine catch - how the hell do I remove it? I was told to "press the stop, magazine catch inwards". I tried, but it didn't budge at all. And it is against my common sense - why push it inward?

2. Main spring - Is it right that you can actually replace the main spring just after removing the grip plates? You don't have to remove any other parts in the frame (trigger, take-down lever, etc.)?

Just by forcing it up and lifting it out of the grip?

Terry... I have the SIG armourer DVD. You are free to borrow it if you want. It explains everything much clearer and in much greater detail than anything on the web.

I will put it in my range bag, and next time I see you and your wife at PoCo I'll let you borrow it. That or... it's like $20 from Brownells, and they will ship it within a day or so. It will get there in about 10 days. Just make sure you get vol. 1, as vol. 2 is for SIGPRO guns. Vol. 1 has a really excellent segment on the "old-style" (stamped slide with insert) SIGs, which I believe is the one you have. It is done buy a gunsmith who is (I believe) some kind of law enforcement officer in Utah, and he really knows what he is talking about and he is easy to follow. I learned a lot. Every SIG owner should have the DVD.

If you order from Brownells.. a couple other things to look at... SIG armourer tool, punch set, plastic punch block (works great), 3mm cup tip punch (only for the 229/239 style milled-slide guns with the solid firing pin positioning pin).

I just reversed my mag release recently. There is a small 'detent/stop' inside the mag button. You need to push it into the button to be able to remove it, a small screwdriver works great for this.

Oh, thank you guys.

I was still not able to figure out the mag release button, then I put it down, and forgot about it. It is Christmas......

Now the P226 is still in many tiny pieces in a plastic container.

Codey was kind enough to have sent his copy of the Sig DVD to me. But Canada Post was not helping me. I plan to try again after the DVD arrives.
