Anyone know anything about this rifle? I found some pictures of it on the web.

Looks like a German made AR-10 style rifle that uses G3 mags? No doubt pricey.
Sort of looks like my DPMS but with a bit more flash. Plus it seems to have a left hand side lever instead of the standard latch of the AR design.

I seem to have a thing for AR-10 style rifles. I really enjoy shooting them.

With the way the US is getting, alternatives are always interesting.

Hmmm yes probably cost $5K I'd guess. About $2100 Euro and then there's all the import/export stuff on top :(. Too bad nice looking rifle. Too steep for my blood. I'd have to sell some of my stuff and that's not going to happen.

Here's the English website propaganda, errr material:

"As a manufacturer of AR-15/M16-style rifles we can offer you almost any rifle-configuration you desire. Regardles which barrel, stock, grip or sights you want, our expiration and excellent contacts to all major manufacturers enables us to build Rifles to your exact specifications. We redesigned and optimized the Upper and Lower Receivers which are machined from solid billet. The Aluminium alloy is two times stronger than stainless steel, the range of its applications are aerospace parts as well as rims for racing cars. We brought down the tolerances to a minimum which guarantees a perfect, tight fit between Upper and Lower Receiver.

The parts are fine-blasted before they receive their hard-anodizing. The Rail of the Upper is a real Picatinny (MilStd 1913) which ensures a tight fit of high-quality mounts like A.R.M.S.®. We use Lothar Walther stainless Steel Match Grade barrels on all of our rifles, regardless which Design you choose. Just let us know what rifle you need and we'll meet your demands. New since fall 2004 is our complete line of .308 Win. rifles."

We have been dealing with Oberland Arms for years. They make a GREAT product. However, very, very pricey.

JR

That's what I was afraid of.
I'm pretty happy with my DPMS now that I know what it likes to shoot. Plus I have an Armalite AR10T on the way. Looking forward to this rifle as well. Can't really complain when we've got some good options already. Just concerned about the whole US situation and their recent changes which may only get worse. Plus I really enjoy shooting semi .308. Bolt as well, but there's something really fun about a semi. When it's accurate it's just so much better.

It's too bad about the price of these rifles. I think 3K would be the maximum. At 6K it's just too much. there are too many other cool rifles to buy.

Any word on the availability of the Oberland rifles in Canada and who might be carrying them.

It would be nice to know effective range, how they are going to be fitted out, and classification before deciding on whether or not the price tag is worthwhile.

Most likely The Shooting Edge would be carrying them.
Effective range would be 800 m.
Outfitted as the manufacture states there many configurations .
Classifaction is Restricted as it was pointed out several posts ago.
Price tag $ 5,000.00
Lastly did you even read the entire post

I'll have to check with the TSE next time I'm in town. Oberland's web site say's they can tailor the gun to any just about anything a person wants it will be interesting to see what they come in as - lets face it someone is going to have to decide on what they think a given configuration will sell.

The OA-15 M1 Heavy Barrel .223 20"barrel would be fun to shoot. The base model being $2700 not including all the import stuff but quite possibly still in reach.

As for restricted or non restricted since its not in Canada yet and depending on how the gun is configured wouldn't all the above be speculation until it is actually in the store. Unless I'm not reading between the lines in "all the above comments" correctly.

Really what part of restricted did you not get these are Restricted regardless of configuration pretty common knowledge

Fergus, it'll be restricted. The modern AR-10 rifles are deemed to be a variant of the AR-15 which is restricted by name. The configuration won't matter.

So that pretty much rules out the LWRC SABR you are saying. Such a shame since the rifle doesn't function like a AR10 and uses a side charging handle. Discraceful that our CFC is so blind and none of us are rich enough to fight such a ruling.

I was kind of thinking of getting my first gun of this type and tumbled across the Oberland website. I guess what had me fooled was that I also saw the Swiss Arms Classic Green which appears at least on the surface to be similar however its a deemed a non-restricted rifle. I saw a DSR 1 in the TSE which is well beyond my price range but they have that listed as non-restricted.

I guess I'm just going to have to spend some time talking with the TSE guys and see if I can get my confusion cleared up.

??? The DSR is not an AR-Style Rifle?? Why would you think it was Restricted? It is a bolt action rifle.....
It sounds like you are basing your decisions on looks.

If you read the first page TSE said they deal with Oberland. $10k is out of your price range....but $5k+ is o.k????

I was looking at the DSR in the case and didn't recognize that it was bolt action. I am basing it on looks, a rifle being semi-auto and the barrel length being short. I figured a long barrel length would possibly be non-restricted but apparently that may not be the case.

Well, instead of digging a deeper hole than what I'm doing at the moment. It will be easier to talk to the folks in Calgary or possibly Edmonton when I get into town about these type of rifles. This thread isn't probably the best place.

Wrong. The thread is the best place. This site will save you a lot of money if you ask the right questions and read the right threads. Before you walk into a gun store you should know your stuff. You'll save a lot of time, money and heartache if you do.
