Alternative Scope Mounting Options

I was wondering if anyone has information on how to mount two riflescopes onto one rifle? I ask because I was thinking of putting a red dot and an actual riflescope onto my favorite rifle(one for the distant shots and one for close in bush work). I was thinking of trying to mount the red dot on top of the regular scope, is there such a mount? Is there any sites a fellow could visit or........ Thanks in advance.
 
ive seen rings that would allow such thing, on an AR15 platform. it had a medium power scope with a red dot mounted side ways, i'll edit this post as soon as i find a picture

EDIT: while it's not quite what i had in mind i found a picture of such rings, the ones i was thinking about allowed to mount a red dot onto a scope at an angle and you would rotate your gun a bit to get sight from the red dot, it's been discussed before i'm sure people remember!

On the face of it, it doesn't seem like a good idea. Think about the extra weight, awkward bulk, and complications of attaching mounts and having two sets of everything that can go wrong, and having to decide which one to use. Now, can you measure the benefit that you think may justify this?
 
forgot to say, have you considered see through rings (allowing sight with iron sights)? while they certainly aren't popular over here, you could always try them (makes your scope sit pretty damn high)
 
If you've got lots of money, the Trijicon ACOG already comes with an integrated mounting rail on top.

Drew: have you ever looked at a good scope appropiate for your job??
Something like a 1.5x5 Leoupold would handle close range brush work & as far as the average hunting gun can hit!

I have a 1.5-5x28 VXIII ill reticle on this 7615 and it is effin fantastic for running shots when set on 1.5 especially in low light conditions with the reticle lit up. I can keep both eyes open just like a red dot and have the extra magnification when needed, best of both worlds IMO.

Dan, in my instance, Super Glue Rules! At least for the testing phase....now if only I could add pics right from my HD :( ........I used the glue and mounted the base (I use Weaver exclusively) so I locked the one side of the mount to the "cap" of the other and then mounted the red dot right beside the 4x16x40. The red dot will be used for those running rabbit shots in close quarters and close squeakers, while the 4x16 is for those 20-200 shots! If this "system" works good...I'll strip it out and use JB (BTW, I am a east central redneck.....born and raised) LOL........So you can see my reasoning on this "project".....Thanks for the interest.

I was expecting this.......
Answer......because I can lol......short range and long range all on one platform, and it cost nothing due to parts onhand! Redneck inginuity at it's finest hee hee
