The Canadian F-86 Sabre was produced by Canadair Limited in Montreal as the Canadair Sabre. The final variant of the Canadian Sabres, the Mk 6, is generally rated as being one of the most capable of all Sabre variants built anywhere.

Canadair designated their versions of the Sabre numerically, through to the Sabre 6 which was the aircraft flown in Europe. It was fitted with a short-span 6'-3" wing which featured slats on the leading edge to counteract the poor low-speed handling characteristics of the swept wing design. It carried two drop tanks (jettisonable fuel tanks) outboard of the main wheel wells. But it was the Orenda power plants that distinguished it from all other versions.

The Orenda jet engine was named after a god of the Iroquois and a total of 3838 of these engines were built, 1723 of which became the power plant of the Canadair-built Sabre Jet. Developed by a small group of about forty young Canadian engineers, the Orenda was one of the most successful jet engines ever built. Built by Avro Canada, with the demise of that company, the engine division survived and became Orenda Engines Ltd. in 1956.

Yes the wings are not original to the airframe the fuselage is a Canadair and the wings are from a USAF a/c as for what MK I think it is a MK5 Fuselage and MK6 wing. It has adapters for the wing tanks.

Its funny, in recent years I've seen some privately owned ex-mil. aircraft in Canada. Last year a recently purchased T-33 drop into the base I work at for fuel. Headed to White Rock & probably doing airshows by now. Old A.N.O.'s didn't allow ex-fighters to be privately registered in Canada, but I guess C.A.R.'s does.? Anyhow this milsurp will burn more in fuel in an hour than I clear in a month!!!

I have always had a sweet spot for the look of the F-86 Sabre. :)

The other day I just noticed that the Legion out in Sydney BC has one outside on display.

I remember seeing the Golden Hawks perform as a young boy in 1960, when the U S Air Force base at Fort Pepperrell, in St John's, had an air show, not too long before the base closed.

It was quite a thrill for a young boy.

F%$#@ cool.....great pictures too. If this is the one purchased from the Florida based, target towing company, I am sure I towed this little beauty onto the flight-line during the winter/early spring of 2002-2003.
It had a different paint job then.

The Golden Hawks were a wonderful thing to see back in the early '60s. The Snowbirds are nice to see,but the Tutor could never match the impression of the Sabre.

The last one I saw flying was when I was stationed a MacDill AFB Tampa,Fl in the mid '80s. They were used by a target tow contractor who used to fly for the F-16s at MacDill.

Nice to see this splendid restoration.
