I would like to do pattern testing on several shotguns and would appreciate any good ideas regarding cheapo alternatives for scooping paper by the roll in 30" or better widths.

Thanks and all the best,

FM

Call your local newspaper and ask if they can get you a rollend.
This is the end of a roll of newsprint after the majority of it has been printed on the press. It can be in different widths but a rollend with even a couple inches still on the core has a lot of paper on it.
If you know where there is a web press shop, dumpster diving will likely yield more than you can ever use.
As added information, a full roll can weigh a ton, be about 42" in diameter and have tens of thousands of feet of paper on it.

Gotta agree with gravyboat. Wrapping paper in a dollar store is going to be really cheap come Friday.
Newspapers get paid for whatever they don't use.

Might be able to just use packed snow. Might be a little hard to see where the shot went but if you spray some food colouring on it it might help.

As for the wrapping paper, that is an excellent idea, you can probably buy 6 rolls for a buck. That would be enough to pattern your shotties till the cows come home.

Strange but practical

I'm in Quebec, I should just gather up some of the election posters, something mildly satisfying in that particular recycling effort...

When I bred a litter I would use roll ends for my puppy pen that needed changing many time per day.:D Local papers used to be happy to get rid of the stuff.

Shoot at a steel plate, coated with greese paint mixture. After shot use paint roller to roll on more paint greese mixture. Take digital photo of shots as you go.

:) I use old building plans. You can get them free from most building or mechanical contractors. They throw out a bunch used for quotes. I crayon an on edge target in the middle to see if the load/choke combination at distance will have the required 3 pellets for breaking a target.

Best regards,
Henry;)

try to find some large appliance or tv boxes, ask at places like sears or walmart, they can always help out.

my source is the city hospital, any time i need boxes for targets, moving, whatever, i just ask in the security office, pull my truck around to the bay, and they opens it up and lets me take whatever i need.
