Looking for best pump-shotgun for $400

Why don't you hold out and save some money for a decent Auto loader? If you are going to shoot skeet. The Auto is the way to go.

mossberg

Hi I would have never bought a mossberg but what I have been told is that if you are going to use it in dirty conditions (back packing, camping, Quading etc) the mossberg wont have trouble cycling the action where as the 870 might tend to jam because of its tighter tolerances. I have had no trouble with mine and I love its versatility.

"Tighter" tolerances on an 870? Not on any of the 870's I've seen or own, unless they were an older wingmaster. Even those actions could never be described as "tight.";)

Your post is confusing:confused: By tighter tolerances, do you mean higher or better tolerance in the manufacturing process? or do you mean that the action is tighter and more difficult to work? So which one is yours? The Mossy or the Remington? Got to watch what you have been told and when you do you should clarify.;)

BTW those old wingmaster works just fine when they get dirty. Back packing is a chunk of cake compared to the dirt that happens in a goose blind.

mossy

who said anything about gunstore clerks being the most reliabel source , the point I wanted to make is that the choice at the time was mossey/870 and price under 400 I took home the mossberg and has given me exellent service in some very dirty environments. it also seems alot easier to pump than my friends 870. I would recomend the mossberg.

One of the less expensive over and unders that you can put a couple of open chokes into wouldn't be a bad start for a new shooter. fS

Wow, thanks alot everyone..

I'm looking into the Mossberg 535, the Remington 870 and the Stoeger P-350.. its too bad that our local lebarons doesn't stock the mossberg, or even a Remington 870 synthetic express according to the catalog..

I vote for Mossberg 500, you can get a new one with two barrels in your price range easily, likley would go with a 535 if it was new and buying new, 2 barrel combo and 3.5" capability.

Did the 870 pass the US military endurance test like the 500 did?

MOSSBERG.

I have the Mossberg never any issues no matter what I shoot.

One brother has the Stoeger Pump Black Synthetic, works OK except does not take much dirt/snow for it to start acting up, jamming and the cursing begins.

Other brother has the 870, he did not like it, never really said why. He got a Stoeger semi could be a P2000?? It actually works really well. Every bit as good as my 11-87.

Recently picked up a nib 870 express based on its reputation as a durable work horse. Passed Moss. 500. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. But I hear bad reviews about the quality and fit and finish of the NEW 870s. Are the new ones that bad compare to the older ones?
