This may be off topic, but if the Americans don't change their mind about selling folding stocks to Canadian civilians, there may be a market if a Canadian manufacturer starts making folders for the Canadian market, and there would be good potential for business if someone up here made exact copies of the original Ruger factory folding stock...

I've also named three common configurations for the mini 14:

Primary (also known as hunter): Fixed stock, small magazine, pretty much a stock rifle

M14 config: Fixed stock, flash hider, hi-cap mag

A team config: folding stock, flash hider, hi-cap mag

if memory serves me right, the older mini-14 has a 1/10 twist rate. this migth be a factor contributing to its accuracy when using 55 gr bullets. mind you that the mini's were competing with the M16s for the army contract back then. in 1989, ruger also made 1/7 (i think they are 185 - 187 series for miniranch rifles); so, if you use 55 gr bullets you are not likely to get good results. the newest and latest model has 1/9, which tries to accomodate all bullet weights.

Folding!

Ohoh... He's on the Jazz...

Mini-14's suck! .......... There must be something inherently wrong with these rifles.

It never ceases to amaze me... how this dissent always surfaces... it is like the success and ownership of the Mini-14 is resented.....

It would be amusing to create a new thread called 'I love my Mini' and put in a few pics, only to attract the flagrant opinions...

I personally like the fixed stock Hougue versions... I have a Mini in the works, probably spring time completion. I am hoping to do a nice folding stock, more in the vain of the SA. We'll see... I haven't liked the typical on the market folders that are available.

Do it man! Let 'er rip!

I like both stocks. The wood stocks are nice and some of the folders have some serious LCF. My folder is real handy for walking the trail or riding around on the quad.

note that you cannot fit the receiver of the 580 series or later to a stock from an earlier series, folding or fixed. if you insist, you might have to cut off some wood from the inside of the stock. just from my observation, i have not actually tried...

Actually it was a joke. I was referring to the "A-Team" television series that saw the actors fire at least sixty or more rounds from their 30 or 40 rnd mags and succeed in hitting not one person.

I like the Mini-14 and just bought one. See my thread Just bought a Mini-14. I shot it a few days ago with irons and without any adjustments to the rear sight. What a surprise. Pretty decent groupings especially with Federal sp in 55 grain.
