What Kind of SKS do I HAVE?

Hey guys,

Just picked up an SKS today for $200... hopefully a good buy. It was basically new, there was a previous owner but i don't think he put more than a couple of rounds through it. It also came with 2 mags... which leads me to my question, what kind of SKS do i have? They appear to be the AK mags... not 100% sure though. The top of the bolt also has the guides in it for stripper clilps which i found really rare and weird on an SKS with mags. IT is a standard SKS stock, not the sporter or anything, and is quite blonde in color. It is marked Made in China by XL (the L looks more like an upside down 7...). It has a blade style bayonet that is held on by a bolt, not rivetted, and all numbers are matching. I know many of you will think it is just an SKS M or D, but it looks quite different. Any feedback would be great!

a "D" or a "M" would sells for more than $200 . if it looks quite different then we need to see it , post a pic.
 
the reason i got it for $200 is because i work in a gun store haha, i'm sure it could have sold for more, and it was a trade in, like i said there was a previous owner. and for the pictures... i haven't figured out how to post pictures yet... lol

Aftermarket mags are common for the sks. Guides in the bolt for stripper clips are not rare, it's on practically every sks that I've ever seen.
Not to sure if the sks-d has stripper clip guides as the bolt does not lock back on that model..
pics would be great.
 
The thing is this is not an sks with "aftermarket mags". They are not the sh*ty conversion kit mags you can get... It uses sks mags… I would post pictures but my account doesn't let me post pictures.

If you can get pics up that would help out a whole lot. I have looked at a lot of the SKS's and just picked one up, so I could probably tell you if you uploaded a pic or two.
 
Possibly an early version of the "D" model in which they retained the stripper clip guides. It reloads a 30 round AK mag in a jiffy (well... not in Kanada); no need for an accessory loader.
Does the rifle have a hold open? the regular D doesn't.

Almost sounds like the bolt carrier was replaced on a "D" with a carrier from a "regular" SKS.

Or the last owner did a home gunsmithing job to convert a regular SKS to accept AK mags. (read about that here on a much older thread...seemed like more trouble/ expense than just picking up a SKS-D).

the only thing is the bolt carrier has to be original because its stamped with the same serial number as all of the other parts on the gun. And it doesn't look like it was a conversion by the previous owner, i wish i knew how to post pictures on here, or was aloud to post pictures so i could show you what it looks like... if anyone can help me out in that area let me know.

so far i havent heard any thing that makes your SKS any different than a D.

i have seen stripper clip guide on original D before . no biggie . what else you got?

sorry, not everyone is specialized in SKS's, i wrote this post for help, not to be insulted. plus i've already established several times that it is most likely not a "D" but thanks anyways...

Going to have to develop thicker skin than that to get info around here.;)

Get your pics on photobucket, copy the line of words with IMG in front of it, post it directly in here. If you're still having trouble, go to the link that someone posted earlier in this thread, it's very comprehensive.

Oh Jesus Christ.. get some thicker skin dude.......:rolleyes:

My point is that don't you think a GUN SHOP would have contacts and resources available to them that WE the "Internet Gun Gods" wouldn't have?

I think it should be simple enough to look up in the gun catalogs, or online stuff available to gun shops, or to call one of the many other gun shops and gun smiths that your shop probably deals with and say "hey, got this rifle...."

Holy sh!t people are touchy on this board lately.....:onCrack:
