:confused:Good Day I have lap the rings tryed different ones used laser levels and still I cant figure out what is wrong. It happens on every scope that I try, be it a Leoupold 12x or a bushnell 10x or a 5-15x it just does not matter. I use up an incredible amount of right windage. The rifle is a Ruger (wait a minute please read more) M77 Target in a 6mm Remington wich shoots very well out to 1000 yards (really). With the higher end scopes that have more minutes I can zero but I only have 6-8 minutes of right windage. I have tryed everything including putting the rifle down and using a laser level to make sure the rings are straight with the bore and all the rest of the rifle, that is bang on.

I hope someone out there can give me some advise? I know that Ruger rings are not the best but that is the only thing I have to work with.

If you're shooting out to 1000 yards, you probably know a bunch more than me. That being said, do your rings require a certain amount of torque and no more??

Do you screw down the top of the bases one at a time or a little bit on each one, about 10x until they're snug?? Is it possible the holes are drilled off kilter, or could you swap the rings front to back, and opposite sides??

I had a goofy set of rings that I swapped front to back and reversed, and they were good ( I had the same windage problem). I don't know why it worked, but it did.:p Good luck.
 
You have other choices. Burris makes a base set, which turns your Ruger bases into Weaver bases. Then you can use either windage adjustable rings or Burris Sig Z rings with the plastic inserts to get you scope on zero.
Could your barrel be slightly bent?

This usually has to do with how crooked the bases were milled into the action.

...But what does it matter if you don't have much windage adjustment left ? If it is sighted in live with it. It is not a type of target rifle where you constantly adjust as you are shooting...

It is possible to get a bit more windage by filing the appropriate ring a little where it fits into and clamps on the base.

I checked out those bases and they look like they would solve my problem. Thanks alot for the input I have been pulling my hair out over this problem for a long time.

I can offer you the Burris rings and bases. Yes, this is an elegant and simple solution to a all too common problem.

The inserts in the rings can realign your scope giving you lots of windage and/or elevation.
