Prohibited gun values.

"I would love to own a snub nosed S&W .44 mag. "

I have a Charter arms 3" Bulldog in 44 Spl. It is a compact 5 shot with an alloy frame (light). I load 200 gr semi wadcutters to about 900 fps. This is more power than a 45 ACP, and it HURTS!!

My full size 44 mag also hurts, so I can't imagine what a 44 mag snub would be like. I assume a gunsmith could make you one out of a m29.

I've been looking for a nice Model 27 with a 3 1/2"' barrel for a coon's age with no luck. I would expect to pay more for the 3 1/2" over a 6" or even a 5". The difference in resale pricing between a 4" to a 6" Model 19, Model 18, Model 28 . . . at present is little if any.

The small off name brands will naturally go for cheap but S&W, Colt and Rugers will hold their value as long as there's still guy's around to buy them. Eventually if the gun laws don't change for the better; the 12-6's will start to eventually drop off. With all the Gun Ban Morons out there we may find all handguns hard to regain the purchase price??? Who knows, but for now I like the short barrel S&W and Colts.

I also have a Charter Arms 44 Special 3". I also have S&W snubbies in 44 Special (624) and 44 Mag (629). Recoil isn't too bad until you start using hunting or silhouette loads, then it will get your attention pretty quick. I have prohib 38's, 357's, 25's, 32's, 40, 41's, 44's, and 45's. I don't find them all that bad (the J frame 38's with stout loads are one of the worst, oddly enough. Tough to hang on to). FWIW - dan

I think the prices being asked for prohibs is a steal! As mentioned above, some are worth more than others - but for the most part the ones advertised on CGN seem well priced to me. :)
