Neat Revolver

OH SURE! Tease us new types that aren't allowed to lust over the old prohibited stuff!

I think it's Ruger that makes a longer barreled convertable between .357 and 9mm if it's just the conversion aspect you found interesting.

About the mid '80's there were several makers putting out convertible guns in .38/.357/9mm. The bore size is close enough (.357, .355) that it worked well enough, but I don't recall there being much of a rush on for everyone to run out and buy them.

lol why not just use a 9mm MOON CLIP on a 357 revolver?
I'm thinking the 9mm case might not be the correct dimensions if you did...not sure though.

From what I read last night apparently the Barracuda was made by Astra for FN. Still a neat revolver.

It is identical to the Astra Police 357 which also had the 9mm Parabellum or Steyr cylinder. Well made, shoots well and it does use moon clips for the 9mm. Their product introduction timing was a bit off as most LE agencies were moving to autos. I just happen to have one sitting right over there --->:D

I saw one in Edmonton about 20 years ago but purchased a couple of S&W 547s instead. As I recall, it felt much like a 3" K frame.

The pistol was made by Astra and sold by both Astra and FN. Astra made the .357 from 1972 to 1988 in 3", 4", 6" and 8.5" barrel lengths. The convertible, .357/9mm, was made in 3" barrel only and introduced in 1986 and presumeably dropped in 1988. My source lists the convertible at US$300 in excellent condition.

I have my 12.6 but I wouldn't buy it. Not for that price...
I do not have my 12.6, but I would love to buy it. $525 is not exorbedent (my opinion) for a unique piece, especially an FN manufactured one. Love those 3 inch wheel guns, and I would like a 9mm that I don't have to chase brass for (anybody got a S&W 547 to sell?).

I suppose you're right, it is a rather rare item. It's just that prohibs can only be sold to fellow 12.6ers, and there are less and less of us every year. The resulting effect is usually a decreased market value, as there are less prospective buyers. Mabe I'm just getting spoiled by that...:(

IMHO the revolver is reasonably priced. It definitely has collector appeal and is rare/hard to find. I sure wish I had 12.6.....:(
