Last year I purchased a T3 in 6.5x55 from Epps for not a whole bunch over $600. After checking it out, one of my hunting partners was convinced he needed a T3 in 7mm-08. So far he has been unable to find one, other than an offer from Wholesale to back order him one for about $900. What happened? I know our dollar has dropped significantly since my purchase, and that accounts for some of the increased cost... but all of it? And what about the supply problems... are they real or imagined? Any ideas?

Icedog, give delselins in Vernon, BC a call. He is a supporter of this site and has a pretty good store. Look him up in the directory and send an email.

The last time I was in the store, there was a blued model T3 on the shelf. It was new though. The price may be similar as well.

A few things have happened in last 12 months:
1) Canadian dollar has fallen 20%+ making import much more expensive
2) Supply of Tikka has been spotty. I received my SS in .308 early December which was back ordered 11 months ago.
3) Demand for Tikka has gone higher and higher. Everyone wants a Tikka given the good feedback.

The list price for a SS T3 has gone from $680 to $895 - a 30%+ jump. Sako and Browning have raised their prices around the 25%+ mark. I would be surprised if other firearm manufacturers are not doing the same.

Note a box of TSX has also jumped from $35 to $43.....

Thanks for the replies and the leads... any others would be appreciated. Unfortunately it's gotta be stainless/ synthetic. I did notice the one at Epps, but it's for a lefty.

Its been dramatic. $ falling from par to $.80 is indeed 20% but it really means you now pay $1.25 for a US dollar(plus the banks cut). In other words the US $ is now 25% higher to buy.

Prices on everything went up...a Rifle I was looking at just went fron 509 to 640 overnight at Wholesale..........that's what I get for procrastinating:slap:

When Canadian dollar goes down, our export will go up. It is not entirely bad news for everyone except those who buy import goods like firearm. Poor gunNutz!

This may be going off topic but I often wonder how long the US government can afford to operate in deficit. As it stands it owes more than $50 trillion including other unfunded liabilities such as social assistance, ongoing health care….

If my memory serves me right, Obama promised free health care, tax cut for 90% of the population…. While fighting the war in the Middle East is expensive, it is only a relatively short-term expenditure. In comparison, the biggest ticket item is health care and it is perpetual in nature (for those of you that are not familiar with public administration). How can any nation continue to spend more than its revenue is beyond me.

I would not be surprised if the US currency goes down in value over the next 3 to 5 years. As long as Canadian dollar doesn’t go down with the US, the Tikkas, Brownings…. will become more affordable once more. The cycle will go on and on. :D

I can understand the prices going up for stuff that was just brought in....but what I do not understand is why are guns, bullets, fishing gear and such going up, when they were probably purchased when the dollar was a lot stronger???? or does stock turn around that fast that the importers are barely keeping up with the demand???.

I know of a couple of items that have been sitting in a sportshop for at least 10 months, that have risen about 14% in the last month and a half. The reason is because of the dollar they said....:confused:

Are we getting screwed again, just like when our dollar was equal, yet stuff was still expensive because it had been purchased when it (the $$) was less???

Just curious to the what, why and when of importing and selling....

Cheers

I've really noticed a jump in prices for everything, even unrelated to guns and ammo.
It's almost like now that gas is "affordable" again they just relocated the cost to everything else.

I just purchased that exact rifle from Canadian Tire here in Calgary. They have an incredible selection for a Canadian Tire, and the price I paid is far less then anything you mentioned. I purchased the T3 in a Blued 7mm-08 for under $600 ($569 if I remember correctly), and I do believe they still have more of them. They're not on the self so you have to ask. If you want some more info on that store let me know and I'll post there phone number.

I need to move to Calgary....don't think any of our Crappy Tire's sell rifles anymore in Bantario

Do tell where is this Canadian Tire that is selling rifles still (pretty tough to find here in Bantario) and Tikkas at that...Wow!

MacLeod Trail south in Calgary. Canadian Tire stores are independantly owned and individual owners can have a gun department if they want. Thankfully this retailer has a great one.

thanks for the post. and yet again it prooves most gun stores raise prices based on greed and demand and not that their actual supply price has gone up.

They are in business to make money like we all are. The T3 is an incredible value. In 1973 the same gun would cost 169.oo when minimum wage was 1.25. Ultimately supply and demand will determine the cost. If the economy goes into a tailspin prices may decrease short term. What we are seeing is most businesses going out of guns because realistically there isnt a big markup.

T-3 prices

I saw this mentioned earlier in a post but Tikka and Sako are made in Finland are they distributed to the USA then to Canada or are they distributed straight to Stoger Canada? If straight to Canada why are we concerned about the US conversion.

Maybe the Canuckbuck dropped in relation to finnish pesos. More than likely what the market will bear.

Straight to Canada but sadly it's the Canadian dollar dropping against other currencies these days...not only the U.S. buck.
