Savage barrel swap-.223 to .250

I recently got a Stevens 200 in .223, and was wondering how difficult it would be to turn this into a 250-3000 Savage? I realize I'd have to swap out the bolt face as well as the barrel, but I believe I've seen them sold at Brownells. Is there any place to buy barrels and bolt heads in Canada?

As for the bolt head, I believe Brownells will only ship that part to a FFL holder in the States. You might try Sharp Shooter Supply, they specialize in Savage.

Is your Stevens center feed or stagger feed ?? You'll probably have to change out some mag parts to get reliable feeding ....

The 22-250 is made from the parent 250 Savage case just change barrels!Magazine fine as is.A lot of people had problems with trying to rebarrel .243's etc........Harold
 
What would it cost a guy to buy a barrel,guages and wrench, everything to swap out barrels? I'm just wondering if the whole idea is smart from an economical standpoint.

If you like the idea of experimenting with various cartridges, saves ALOT of money. The install costs for 2 buys you another barrel. Barrel swaps take me about 10mins to complete.

You can make the same action a super light sheep rifle, a heavy dangerous game rifle, to a F class match rifle, to a PD buster, to a LR cannon shooting the latest boomer all within minutes by swapping out parts.

I can offer prefit/chambered barrels in over 150 chamberings for the Savage/Stevens actions. The costs for these barrels are very reasonable. See my link below in my sig line. $355 to $470 depending on bells and whistles.

The chambering is done very carefully to ensure concentricity and alignment. Headspacing is placed at ZERO because of how you will install in your action.

I have swapped barrels between several actions and used the same case and ammo without any change in accuracy. System is modular.

You do need to get a barrel nut wrench. Ebay, or other US vendors for around $75 - this is a tool so no export restrictions and perfectly legal to send to Canada.

for a headspace guage, use sized brass. That way you get the best fit between the chamber/headspace and your dies.

I've done the same conversion with my Savage 16 FCSS. It came in 7mm WSM, and I just bought .223 and .308 bolt faces with the applicable detachable magazines, and ordered the barrels from Mysticplayer. So I would recommend (if you haven't already bought the rifle) saving your money and buying the detachable mag Savage rather than the Stevens. Makes everything a breeze, and the detachable mag more than makes up for the extra cost of the Savage. Otherwise, like Rembo said, you could have feeding issues.

I bought both extra bolt heads and my barrel nut wrench from Sharp Shooters Supply. Quite inexpensive for the quality, and very good to deal with. I'm also planning on a .250-3000 savage barrel in the near future, so I'll be keeping Mystic in business.
