Hello,

I just purchased a Savage Mark II-G Bolt Action Rifle with AccuTrigger. After a lot of research, this seemed to be a very good firearm. Cost me $214.14 shipped from SIR. Hopefully this gun will live up to my expectations. Anyone know the shipping time to Ontario on this product? It didn't say on the website. Anyone with tips or tricks to this gun, please feel free to let me know.:p

Thanks,
Dan

Depends on their stock but on the average about 14 days. No real tips, just insepct the gun, make sure no screws and pieces are missing, clean the barrel, bolt before shoothing. In my BTVS I saw an improvement of grouping after about 250 shots.

I have the same rifle in 22 mag and it is a very good shooter. I put a bushnell rimfire scope 3-9x32 nice little pkg. My stuff from SIR usually comes in a week or less. Is yours 22 mag? Have fun :ar15:

Just bought the same rifle myself today. I had a $50 gift certificate from Baron Sports that my brother had given me for Christmas, and they had one in their Pointe Claire store on sale for $186. I'd recently installed Tech Sights on my 10/22, and so needed a rifle to stick under my Bushnell 3-9X32mm scope.

I like the looks of it so far. The stock is nothing to write home about, but the rifle seems pretty sound. Handles nicely, everything is nice and tight and smooth, and the Accu-Trigger is freaking blissful. I dropped a bunch of aftermarket trigger bits into my 10/22 a while back, and got the trigger nice and crisp and light. The Accu-Trigger is nicer than that. I can't wait to get the thing out and zero the scope. I have a very good feeling about this gun.

I've got the same rifle, with composite stock, peep sights and bull barrel. Very crisp action, very accurate, plasticky stock not so much, and the mags and mag latch feel and look like they were made by a WWI soup can factory, but it's accurate as hell, and has very good peep sights, so I don't care about the rest.

I also agree that you made a good buy in the Savage. My MKII is an excellent shooter and the accu-trigger is awsome. I have the heavy barrel, but the advantage of the "G" would be that you will get the open sights included. My only advice would be to pick up some spare 10 round mags, and tons of different types of ammo and have a blast at the range or in the field. It may show a preferance for one type of ammo or another, either in accuracy, or in reliability, so try as many as possible. Mine for example doesn't feed certain types of ammo reliably. For maximum effect, try some yellow jackets or stingers and blow up water bottles at 50-100 yards. Total fun....

I forgot to mention, Canadian Tire sells a metal spinner target for .22's, bout $40.00 I highly recommend one they are great practice.

The Savage Mark II is a great rifle. It's the most accurate .22 I have ever owned. You can't go wrong with it.

It's the first gun I ever bought and I love it.

It's pretty accurate to begin with, even in that Tupperware stock, but it's a bit picky on ammo. Mine seems to prefer the Federal blue box stuff and doesn't care much for Winchester Super X.

When I have a chance, I'll give her a try with 2 different brands of high-velocity stuff, see how she likes that.

But I've gotta ask you: why did you order it in? Every gun shop I've been at (in Ontario) except one usually has a few in stock?

Yup, mine too. I tried every brand of cheapo .22 ammo that I could find, and did find a few that worked well.

Mine worked best with Winchester Dynapoint $17 bucks a box, and equally well with American Eagle at $22 bucks a box. (**see below)

It did not like remington game loads (worst), winchester 333, federal champion (blue box) and one other cheapo brand I can't remember the name of.

I don't post these results to tell anyone what to expect or give advice, but rather to mention that putting a good scope on your rifle, and testing YOUR rifle out at 25 and 50 yards with the ammo you can afford to shoot regularly is a good idea. I was pleasantly suprised at some of the budget brands and apalled at the performance of others. I have heard though, that some of the ones that my gun doesn't like, others love, and vice-versa, so test YOURS to make sure.

After testing I immediately went back to walmart and cleaned them out of the cheap dynapoints that worked well in my gun reasoning that shooting from the same lot # is a good way to ensure reliable performance.

** when I say "best", performance, I mean the relative best. Dynapoints were giving me about a 2.5" 10-shot group for each of 5 groups at a known and measured 50 yards. Not bad for ammo costing me 3.4 cents/round, and entirely adequate for alot of the plinking I often do, although not as good as this guy on another forum that tested his savage mark II with a bunch of expensive stuff like eley match and lapua or whatever, and was getting groups that varied from a dime to a quarter with holes touching at the same 50 yard range.

MkII Ammo

My MkII FSS? (plastic stock, stainless sporter bbl & action) loves CCI Stingers. Doesn't much like anything by winchester and is ok with federal. I think production tolerances are somewhat varied at Savage, so you've really got to play around with ammo to find out what works for you. I agree that the magazines are less than ideal and second the suggestion that you grab a few, as some work better than others. I topped mine with a bushnell trophy 3-9 scope, and no tin can is safe on any fencepost around here. At the range, it'll shoot two inch groups at 100 yards any day, and one big hole at 50yrds. It's hell on bunnies and squirrels too.:D
