I don't follow the rimfire seen much but has anybody heard if they are comming out with a 10/17HMR? in the near future? Would appreciate ant news or rumors I would like to get one if I can.Tx.gollum

Remington also offered their model 597 in .17HMR although I have recently read somewhere it has been discontinued due to "problems". There may still be some on shelves somewhere, which would be much cheaper and easier than aquiring a 10/22 mag and converting it, but beware of why the 10/17 and the 597/17 are not available which is they tend to blow up from time to time....I believe the 597 is still available in .22WMR though.

I have heard that Ruger could not get their's to work and let it die on the vine. Remington had lots of problems with the 597. I have not heard of an official reason why they discontined it especially since an auto .17 seem in demand. I would not buy a 597 17 no matter how cheap.

Allow me to rephrase...I'd buy one when all the bugs are worked out.

I've been thinking about picking up a new rimfire and still haven't decided on one in .22 lr or 17 hmr. From all of the reading I've done, it seems that the 17 hmr is a little harder on semis than it is on bolt actions - resulting generally in more failures...

hsld.

I believe the issues with the 597 were fail to feed and fire out of battery related

No it was a little more serious. Bolts and clips often broke upon firing. Ammo split etc. I know of at least one person slightly injured. I would not go as far as to say they blew up.

isn't there a company named magnum research or something that produces a 10/22 specially converted to 17hmr, from the ground up?
oops, just checked out their site and they aren't based off the 10/22, but still is a semi-auto 17 hmr..
