In Ontario, if it is not taken by someone for meat, half the time it ends up in the ditch. Sometimes landfill.
There are some big cat zoo's that take them for feed.
As others have mentioned, just call the OMNR and they will send you a letter/permit to cover you for having the meat. It says you must call the MNR immediately, but I don't know how you do that at 4 am??? A police report is not needed as far as the deer goes.
Here's a thought for you though.......Hit a deer and it is a "not at fault" insurance claim. Swerve to miss a deer, miss it, yet hit a tree, and it is an "at fault" claim.
So hit the deer, get some meat and save on your insurance!!!!!
