Prices on Swiss Arms rifles

I don't think the Franc has gone up that much, more that the Canadian dollar has tanked versus the US dollar (most international transactions use the US dollar)

I paid $3000 for mine, before they went down to $2800. Another $500 seems to be about the norm for rifles in this type of price range.

The prices are going up for one reason and one reason alone. Rarity. It's been 9 months since the last shipment of swiss arms rifles.

I heard rumours that some of the suppliers of parts/materials for swiss arms were hit hard during the international credit crunch, and the swiss arms factory is having a hard time getting their rifles out in a normal rate of production because of it.

International trade is done in USD, so when the next shipment does come in, it will likely be around 3000+.

No, they are going up because last week the swiss franc was worth $1.15, last year at this time it was worth about $0.90.

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Between June 05 and Dec 07 the Canadian dollar appreciated by more than 20% against the Swiss Franc. In the last year the Swiss Franc has settled back down to the value it was 4 years ago. Funny that 4 years ago people were paying $3k for a Swiss Arms and that during the period when the Canadian dollar appreciated against the Franc the price didn't come down. Canadians have always paid a premium for this gun because it is non-restricted. My guess is that this is just another money grab knowing that SLRs are on the chopping block once the Lieberals get back in.

I don't think that the price is unreasonable compared to the competition of what else you can get in that price range. I don't think that it being non-restricted has anything to do with it, the restricted models fall around the same price range. You pay for what you get and I'm quite happy with mine.

Actually the price did come down, now it is back up. If the CHF continues to slide, it may go back down again. Sorry but the margins on them have remained largely unchanged. The problem is that shipments are irregular and prices need to be set based on currency value when invoice is paid not based on a CGN opinion of what the best exchange rate in a period was.
