Russian SKS45 long thread.

I was reading about using a steamer to clean it. Anybody here done it???? Weird thing is I don't remember how I cleaned my Norinco a few months ago. Hmmmm. I am too forgetful. I think I used something stinky and carcinogenic. So I am trying to find a safer alternative!

That seems like i could end up with some residue in some interesting places! But the bottle of champagne sounds good! Mmmmm. Now I have a craving but I am too lazy to go out again. Does anyone wanna deliver for me???:p

Anyone ever tried break cleaner to get off the cosmoline?

That's what I used on the metal. On the handguard the cosmoline just seem to wear off and duct tape took it off. I thought that was weird. I ruined the main stock trying to 'melt' the stuff off, I used too much heat and ended up painting it.

So no one knows anything about using steam???? And where's my Champagne???

I have heard of people using steam with good results. But I think steam is best when the cosmo is real thick and heavy on the rifle.

The last SKS I de-cosmo'd I stripped to all its pieces and dipped every part in a pot of boiling water then cleaned up with break free.

It's interesting to note that the Al Simmons refurbed carbines have the black bolt carriers, a black finish, gray unfinished rear sights and box slash refurb marks.

The refurbs from Ellwood Epps had bright bolts, blue finish, blued rear sights and diamond refurb marks.

Johnnylo, are any of those stocks original matching or all they all re matched with "X's"?

I hope to obtain one of those shipping crates too. Nice grab.

I'll be up at CFB Borden tomorrow with my SKS's to see how they group. Range report later......
