Brand new rem 597 fell apart....

Ok As a Christmas gift to myself I went out and bought a Remington 597 for plinking/hunting . I ordered it from Cabelas Canada. On test firing it I noticed that every 2-3 shots it would not extract the spent casing . I have te regular mag that comes with the gun and the 30 round remington plastic one.
I came back home and put the mag in and opened the bolt . Then extracted the mag and there was a small black peice of metal that fell out of the gun . On looking at the exploded veiw of the firearm , the peice that fell out was the plunger extractor .

Now right in front of the extractor plunger is behind the extractor itself which is probally laying in the woods somewhere .

Has anyone else had this problem ? I have called Cabelas and Remingtion and the only people that can help me will not be in untill monday . Any comments or suggestions?

Take the opportunity and get a volquartzen extractor, order the hammer while you are at it. Is the spring still with you?

Spring is still in the gun , I wonder if Cabelas would be kind enough to install it for me free of charge?

X2. 597 seem to have this problem every once in a while

have a 597 sitting here. havent had any problems with it or the rem brand 30 round mag. Have only about 12 bricks through it though.

597 Problem

I ordered my 597 in .22 in Nov when I got it from Carbela's canada it look fine after cleaning it and taking it out to test fire the chamber was not larger enough to fit the .22LR round. the gun was sent back and I'm still waiting for it to be looked at. I think I may get a 10/22 from Russells.

My 597 hasn't yet spontaneously fell apart. It had a few burps n farts growing up, but it runs quite well.

kind of funny some are OK others JUNK wonder what the problem is ? the gun itself, the parts, or people putting them together! I got one coming hopefully its a good one!

My friend has one. He was in denial for a long time but finally he realized it's garbage. Now he shoots a bolt gun and loves it.

No problems with mine.
Some cheap ammo will cause FTF anr/or FTE but it's not the rifle. I have two 10 round and two 30 round magazines and they work well too. (A bit stiff to load but work fine.)

I think it would be great to get my hands on one of these 597's that doesn't work worth a crap, and really see what the culprit was.....

Hm....inconsistant quality, sounds like Remington has a QA issue with this item.

Maybe they should stick with Model 700s and such?

I am going to call Remington tommorow and give them a blast for poor QA control .....
