Our Soft Body Armor Policy

When we brought on Armor Express as our choice for body armor for Dave's, we did so for the sole purpose of outfitting a police dept. In that we have done even more. Now its OUR store policy to only sell our soft armor to LE, Mil, Ambulance, Security for the reasons that IF something bad would happen that they would not have to worry that the same place they got their armor from is the same place that the "bad guy" got his from. Now this may be harsh to alot because I for one know that most people are not the "bad guy" but in the end it puts the end user that we are selling to at ease.

We have done this with other products in our store like the 5.11 Holster Shirt. We have had many agencies use them and they were happy to know that the people that they were watching or going after would hopefully not have seen or bought one of these.

Now anyone can go to any other store and buy these items. But we have a duty to our end users to keep them safe and out of harms way.

If anyone has any questions they would like answered on this or has any problems please feel free to contact me by either Phone, Email, or PM and I'll be more than happy to help you in any way I can.

I am licensed to Legally buy and possess weapons and ammunition that would put any equipment in use by many 'end users' to shame.
But somehow preventing a Federally Licensed Individual from buying armor seems asinine.

Is one life worth protecting more than another?

Who supplies this product to 'C-Villains' then?

(I retyped this 10 times because I didn't want to sound to much like an ass)

+ 1

Although I have no intention (currently, anyway) to buy any form of body armor - I find this policy quite disappointing.

I've made a few (5-6) purchases from Dave's over the last few years (small potatoes, I know) and can't see that continuing given the current policy.

I for one, will never shop at your store again. Not that I enjoyed my visits anyway.

Didn't know that you guys consider the lives of "LE, Mil, Ambulance, Security" people to be worth more than that of other vocations.

Just because some drug dealer can come in there and buy a product from you, you deny the sale to thousands of other law abiding citizens? Jeez, that sounds similar to lefty gun control logic to me. "It's makes our end-users feel better" ....Wow Try practicing some judgment and deny the sale to who you see fit AT THE TIME of purchase, rather than advertising your slap in the face to the non LEOs

I concur with the sentiment in this thread. I find your decision to be discriminatory and shortsighted. I have spent considerable money at your store and have seen over the past few years how Dave's surplus fancies itself the place to go for LEA shoppers. this policy does not suprise me, as I have seen this mentality conveyed through the actions and comments of your employees as well. Its a shame, because you do carry some great products, but get real.

+1 So much for being innocent till proven guilty, oh wait...we are law abiding, rule following citizens that own firearms.... we apparently are the law breakers, have no rights and are the bane of society.

Oh and Dave had better get some soft armour for his foot, cause he just cocked the hammer and is squeezing the trigger to shoot himself there.

Ok here is a question to you all then. Are you willing to leave all your info with us. And if it need be it would be given to the police if they request it? because me opening it up to the public with bring more bad than good in our city.

I hope LE sales are good for your store because I can see you loosing a lot of "civilian" sales over this new policy. I have only spent a few hundred dollars shopping your website, but I can guarantee that that number will be zero from this moment forward.

Tell me your joking.

... Hey Guys ! Be FAIR ! The store has every right to select what products they "choose to carry", and select to whom the sell to! In this case, they "choose" to give a discount to CGN Members, and they "choose" to sell at competative prices, and they CHOOSE NOT to sell Body Armour indiscrinately. Seems fair and resposible to me ! And they've been up front in stating their policy, and the reasons for it !! .... David K.:)

How can i do a background check as a retail store? How do I know who is good or bad? I cant and for me to do it on a 1 on 1 who I think basis wouldnt work either.

I know there could be a answer to fix this but I cant figure one out without getting screwed in the end.

It's not hard to find a b.p. vest it also is not against any law!Why in the world would you do background checks on paying coustumers.give your head a shake!

LOL Just ask for a PAL, doubt there are many criminals with a valid one.

lol. This thread is funny. I am not sure what you guys do with your body armor if you do not meet Dave's criteria, but being that it has made some of you take such a hard line stance makes me think it is important.

You're missing the point altogether. It has nothing to do with body armour. It has everything to do with a business deciding that he will control the sales of an uncontrolled product.

Would you feel differently if a gun shop suddenly decided to only sell handgun ammo to LE only and cut off "civilian" sales because some bad guys might buy it?

Edited to add: It is his right as a business owner to make decisions like this, of course. But it is my right as a consumer to not do business with businesses that treat me like a criminal.

You just made it that much worse. Kudos

Tell me you actually think because criminals abuse something that it should no longer be available to the public?!?!

We better give up our guns then. And our vehicles. And while we're at it, our balaclavas, baseball bats and bolt cutters. These items should no longer be sold, as they cause more "bad than good in our cities"

You're logic is unbelievable. A piece of body armor is in the same category as a lock for your door. Not required, but also not a bad idea to have.

Saying the public should not be able to possess Twaron or Kevlar is absolutely asinine and you know it.

Thank god for eBay
