Bird hunting

Bird Hunting

this is a joke right??? yes you need a license to hunt birds. Go to a gun store and ask. I'm not sure about Alberta regs, but here in BC, you need several licences to hunt waterfowl and there are very strict regs on where you can hunt...do some homework before you "just start shooting"

You can only shoot certain types of game birds. To do so you need a game bird licence. Bag limits vary depending on species and the season is in the early fall. Please consult a copy of the hunting regulations for specifics.

Or, if you just want to blast airborne critters, go after magpies. I enjoy wandering the home quarter section and flush them out of the scrub bushes and trees or wait until they come for the dead gophers and poke them with a .303/.308/.270/.17HMR/etc.

The big black ones have the most meat and the best flavor. The smaller black and white ones are nearly as delicious.

The big white ones taste like fish.

The big brown ones with white heads taste a lot like chicken crossed with garbage dump, not recommended.
The gray ones with the big yellow eyes are too hard to see in the dark.

Good luck with the fishing trip. Don't bump your head on the underside of the bridge!

Cheers

These taste the best if you shoot them with #7 1/2 shot to not cause too much damage to that delictable meat. Use JD BBQ sauce and stuff with lemon, onion and rice. Wrap it in tin foil and throw it on the grill over medium heat for about 45 minutes. Baste every 10 minutes or so with a mix of melted butter, garlic powder and crushed basil leaves.

Yeah ok but really how much meat have you gotten off those? Sure you have two good drum sticks but there's nothing on the ribs, the breasts are dry and no amount if maranating can help there. No, if your just gonna blast somthing best stick to eagles, you at least have a real meal there. Or if your adventurous, penguin is fantastic slow roasted over a coal bed.

To any of the other trolls out there, these guys are KIDDING.

I prefer the yellow eyed ones with a little salt and pepper fresh out of the smoker. Get a young one though the older ones taste a bit like mouse.

Check Regulations and Make Sure to Keep Hunting Licence with you
We have still time for Grouse in Ontario for 3 more days at some WMU and Geese start again in Feb for few days
Good Luck

I just picked myself up a shotgun and I want to go shoot me some birds with it... But don't know very much at all about hunting anything.
Do i need a license to hunt birds or can i just go out of town and start shooting anything I see flying? Or can I only shoot certain kinds of birds?
Is there like a "hunting season" for birds like there is with deer?

If the hunter safety coarse hasn't taught you anything about what's legal, and when, then go ahead and have at' er.

I've always liked the looks of them bald eagles.

Wings as long as my canoe and prolly good for a weeks feed.:D

Just cain't seem to get that fish smell out of'em.:p
