10/22 Barrels

I have a 16.5" Fluted Green Mountain on my gun and I have only shot with it once, I can see that it has AMAZING accuracy potential. If you are willing to spend the money, an Rimfire Technologies Quantum barrel are some of the best barrels out there. You would probably have to go to the states to get one, but they are a light THM barrel. I have also heard good things overall with the Butler Creek 20" Fluted or Non fluted STEEL barrels....stay away from their carbon fibre....unless you want the equivalent of a 10/22 shotgun

slow down there buddy. mine shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards with dynapoints. you just have to make sure you install it right and show it some love.

Interesting. I have a Butler Creek stainless fluted HB and it definitely outshoots the factory barrel I had on it. Shooting CCI Standard Velocity out of it gets easy 1/2" groups @ 50 yds. It wasn't exactly 'cheap' in price either......

I can offer Shilen BR Match barrels. Rimfire is not something that Shilen is well known for. They have been a dominant force in centerfire SR BR for decades.

Their rimfire barrels are doing very well competing with the likes of Benchmark.

I am sure there are exceptions to every rule, I have just not heard very much, if any good things about their THM barrels.....more lemons that lasers so to speak. I'm very happy you got a good one :p
 
I actually have had good results with Buttler creeks Carbon fibre barrel and their heavy bull barrel. (Just ensure that the CF bbl is free floated)

I like that you can extract an unfired round from them.

Green mountain barrels are better for accuracy, but they are heavier and you will occassionally have a hard time extracting an unfired round with some kinds of ammo. This is because of their "Match" chamber design.

Both types of steel can make very good shooting barrels. However, most barrel makers prefer the SS because of the ease of getting better lapping accuracy ie easier for them to machine.

Shilen's highest grade is in SS for that reason.

Again, it depends on your level of accuracy expectations and amount of testing you will do with expensive ammo to extract the most from any barrel.

I have a Green Mountain barrel on mine and the accuracy is pretty amazing for a semi auto. This is a pic of a 5 shot group at 50 yards with CCI Mini Mags. If I wouldn't have pulled the 5th shot it would have been respectable. I always do that though, I get excited when I shoot a small group and mess up.:redface:
