I'm shopping around for a fun and reliable .22lr pistol. Any opinions as to which would be best and then where to find one online to buy?? Please advise! Thanks.

The SIG is NOT reliable and very fussy with ammo.

Agreed. I had one and after the first range outing I took it back for a store credit. I didn't care if I loss money on it or not. I couldn't shoot a complete magazine without some sort of malfunction and it wasn't worth my time to tinker with it when I have other pistols that function flawlessly. This even happened with the recommended Mini-Mags. Of the two you mentioned I'd recommend the S&W even though I've never fired one. The people I know with them are satisfied and happy with them. The suggestion for a Ruger is a good one. I have a Government Competition slabside that has been, IMHO, a very, very good pistol in terms of accuracy and reliability. YMMV.........

Green shot, what's your budget? New or used? If you're patient keep haunting the EE in Pistols and Rimfire for options. They show up quite regularly.

I was partial to the S&W 22A but I ended up risking it and bought a Tanfoglio Force 22. I'm VERY glad I did. Check Freedom Ventures for it. A little pricey at $600'ish but she's a sweetie to shoot. Otherwise I'd suggest the 22A or a Browning Buckmark.

I tried the Ruger and while it's a hellishly accurate and stable gun to shoot it's just too "stable" for my tastes. It just felt like nothing was happening in the hand but a hole would magicaly appear in the target. A great gun with a great reputation but just not to my tastes.

I have a mosquito and at first it wasn't very reliable but I now have 3000+ rounds through it and it works great with all ammo. Make sure your serial number is above 40,000 for the second generation, mine is in the 52000's.

I had a Sig .22 and a S&W .22 and I still own a Browning Buck Mark. The S&W .22 is a great accurate gun for the money, the Browning is also a great gun and accurate for the money, the Sig looks good, likes hot CCI ammo and is about as accurate as a farmer with a shovel full of peas. Not a very good gun for accuracy and not very reliable.

I owned one and that was my experiance.

sig mosquito or s&w 22

Buy a cz kadet.I bought one last spring,it's a well built all steel pistol the kind that will last you a lifetime and you hand it down to your kids.I almost bought one of those pot metal pistols but decided for a few extra dollars get something that will last and has some resale value in case you ever want to sell it. Its the only pistol that feels like a full size combat pistol. I highly recommend it.

Ive said it before, so Ill say it again! Ive got a Mosquito and its as reliable and accurate as most .22s Ive owned or shot! No, it doesnt have the accuracy of a Model 41 or a Hammerli but its not supposed to!

SIG Mosquito

I recently purchased one.....from P & D in Edmonton....comes with a hard case, trigger lock, two mainsprings, 3 front sights, and a threaded bbl. for your silencer...
Functions fine....and nicely made...

Longnife .... threaded for a silencer ..... really .....
Well like I said mine was just not a good shooter and would never be a good shooter with the piece screwed onto the end of the barrel with the sight on it which just hangs on the barrel with a set screw. You get 3 sights because they have a habit of falling off the tip extension. What do you consider accurate RT. Mine never jammed but if you put 10 rounds in the clip the first 4 rounds had to be chambered by hand and it did not matter if I had the light or heavy spring in it. The only ammo that would fire flawlesly was CCI. The rest worked but like I said the first 4 rounds had to be hand chambered.

I have a Browning Buckmark and at 25 yds I get a 1" in group. Never get that with the Sig Mosquito. I also have a model 41 ...

#1BCshooter how is it the Brownings are a pice of sh1t as you put it and your Mosquito is the best when most of the civilised world thinks the opposite. Read some reviews on the Ruger, Browning and Sig.. then come back and support your thoughts.

I said the Browning challenger I had was a POS . I don't need to read the reviews . I have been shooting 22 H/G since 1975 , I currently own a Sig mosquito , Walther, P22, Ruger Mk 1 target ,1911a1 w/conversion kit . not to mention 22 revolvers & 12.6 22's . Oh & by the way those are not my thoughts They are my REAL life experiences . Like I said my Sig works great with CCI standard velocity & is accurate . Maybe you need to do some more shooting instead of reading reviews . But this is the Internet & you are entitled to your opinion

Just came back from the range tonight, and my buddy had his Mosquito out again. He's had it for about a month and I'm guessing he's put at most a couple thousand rounds through it. I've put about 50 rounds through it over the last few weeks. My experience and my observations exactly match your report. As per many posts on CGN, the gun is very, very fussy about ammo. It only likes the expensive ammo. And, even with the hotter ammo that doesn't jam every second trigger pull, the groupings are brutal when compared to a Ruger MkIII or many other .22 pistols. But, it does feel good in my hands and the components all seem to be good quality. To bad it can't shoot straight relative to other .22's in that price range. For any other Mosquito owners that might be offended by my report, please understand that I'm not saying all Mosquito's are bad. I've only ever shot this one Mosquito and perhaps others are much better...
