Hi all,

Thought I would post a pic of my new (to me) BSA Sporter P17. She's pretty nice, the stock has certainly got some character, but not too bad for what is a 90 or so year old rifle.

Can't wait to get her out to the range..!

She's wearing a Bushnell Legend 2-7x32mm scope that I got at Wholesale Sports. A very helpful fellow there mounted and boresighted it for me.

I look forward to taking her out hunting this year.

Mine was a great shooter. You can get aftermarket stocks for them. Check out Richard Microfit stocks - they ship to Canada. It ma cost a little bit because of the original 6 round deep belly magazine configuration.

Do you know what scope mounts are on it? I've got a P-14 with the ears ground off, I'd like to scope it as well. Nice rifle, bloody strong action too.

Hi all,

Love the pic. Usually the rule is that pics must have the camera operator's feet in the frame, but cats are a definite improvement!

I picked up a BSA-sporterized P14 (so .303 rather than 30-06) a couple of years ago and she is a beaut. Even came with a Timney trigger. All I did was re-do the bedding, oil the stock and put a scope on it.

Shoots well too:

They're heavy rifles but hell for strong. I have another one, similar to yours, that I'd love to convert to .405 Winchester "just because."

The bases are Weaver #35 and #36 top mount bases. It was already drilled and tapped when I got it, and these seem to do fine. The bases did have to be shimmed in order to allow the bolt handle to clear the eyepiece. You don't want them too high though, as the stock is generally low in order to accommodate the iron sights. Luckily I shoot more with my chin on the stock than with my cheek.

I may refinish the stock in the spring/summer. It looks alright, but some of the varnish is scratched and there are one or two dings in it. I like the wood, so a plastic stock is not really an option...

The cats were quite interested in it, that was the furthest I could shoo them away...!
